Cocker Spaniel advice wanted, breeders local to Manchester?

My friend has asked me if I know of any reputable Cocker breeders local to Manchester. Its not a breed I know much about so I thought I would ask you guys.....PM me any breeders you would and wouldn't recommend for her. She is looking for Christmas time when they will have time off to settle it....they are a lovely family and any puppy would want for nothing  or else I wouldn't be helping her lol. Kids are all teenagers and it wont be on its own much at all...if it is Auntie mel will puppy sit ;-)

    Thanks Mel

Are they interested in a working or show cocker? I know a working cocker breeder in Yorkshire if you would like the details?

Hiya and welcome to Dogsey - very exciting to be thinking about a new puppy.

If you go for a working cocker you really need to be able to give it the exercise and mental stimulation that it needs. Unfortunately we had someone come to classes with a working cocker, they had been told by the breeder it would be the same as a show cocker - which of course they aren't.

They could not coap with his very high energy levels and his need to outside a lot. They did try very very hard with training, but in the end he went back the breeder as they just couldn't give him what he needed.

Sometimes it seems the ideal time to get a dog at Christmas when every one will be at home, but there are very good reasons why rescue centres and very responsible breeders will not let pups go over Christmas. It's a very busy time, not much routine, people around all day and they having to get used to being left as soon as the holidays are over, Christmas trees and decorations to eat and choke on and also all those new presents to chew and that before you even consider toilet training during the festive season!

It might be worth discussing both of these things with your friend.

Sorry can't help with a breeder, but can highly recommend getting a cocker spaniel (show type in my case).
They are fabulous dogs and I'm seriously thinking of getting another one, they are so great

Show cockers are fantastic pets, not that I'm biased or anything ;), but I think you may have problems finding reputable breeders letting pups go around Christmas time, for obvious reasons.

Oops I forgot to PM you the link to the breeder of the working cockers ... will do so now :)

Are you friends very active? Working cockers are busy little dogs and need plenty to do - although can make great pets in the right hands.
