hello i have a staffie angel she is so lovely i couln't ask for a better dog but think she may be getting a bit chubby how can i get her to lose a bit of weight. i would also love to breed her but not sure about having the responsabilty of giving the pups new homes i have been told that staffies are one of the most abandoned dogs does any one have any advice for me
peadigree chum 1 tin per day with mixer. plus she is walked either once or twice a day. why would you definatly not bread?
as you say, there are huge numbers of staffies in rescue as they are often being bred indiscriminately and homed inappropriately. i know in the local papers you will see litter after litter of SBTs, many without papers, and so finding any homes must be a nightmare, let alone forever homes..
Staffs are one breed that is far too overbred and imo breeding should be left to the professionals, espceially in a breed which is so over populated. Can I ask why you want to breed for her? Just out of interest. Pedigree is a very commercial food and it is full of additives and fats e.t.c. Burns is a good dry food which will help keep her weight down, i'm sure people will be along in a bit with alist of reccommended foods you could try her with to help with her weight.
she is such a gorgeous girl with a good pedigree and would have loved to have let her have a least one litter. but i think i agree with you i just needed to hear it from some else
Well my advice would be to get her in the ring first and see how she does, everyone thinks their own dog is stunning and they are to us but to breed from her she should conform to the standard for staffies and by showing her you will find this out from people who are experts in the breed. If they agree with you and you still want to breed then take it from there. She'd also need to be health tested which can cost a pretty penny. If you are going to do it's always best to do it right and not half heartedly. Best of luck. x
Can I just say well done for asking questions rather than just breeding without thinking of the consequences. If you search through the various threads about breeding on here you will see that there are far more reasons not to breed than there are reasons to breed. If only more people were like you, there would be a lot less dogs in the rescue shelters
thanks i have always tried to do the right thing when it come to my puppy before i got her i phoned so many staffie organisations and breeders just to make sure i knew what i was in for she is like one of my chilldren. i definatly think im going to show her i just need to find out how to get into it xx
