I am hoping to go to the Scottish Championship Show on the 18th of this month, I have finally persuaded OH to get another dog in the spring. We met a woman with cavaliers in all four colours and he was soon won over I'm hoping to meet some good breeders at the show (and see some lovely dogs of course). I was recommended a breeder in Perth but I have misplaced the number, I'm annoyed with myself as I'm going there next week but can't find info on the KC website, any ideas? I used to have a lovely little blenheim, but I'm thinking of a tricolour this time but obviously the main thing is the health and condition of the pup. Am I too early to start looking, do you think?
hiya i have been looking for a few months now (on and off)and was going to give up as every CKCS breeder i contacted didnt MRI scan there pups for heart or eye problems, or any health tests to be honest! i gave up for a bit but started looking again and have found a amazing breeder for many many years & all health checks great stud and she used to show! and i am Soo happy i found her!! she also owns all the colours and her waiting list is soo long i might have to wait a year or more instead of 6 months! if they dont do health checks espically with this breed id leave, they obviously dont care about the future pups wealthfare, or their dogs! i started looking in march this year i think so 7 months (on and off though) its taken me to find her! so id say yes start researching and looking now!! i love all CKCS colours and was going to get a blenheim as her next litter will be blens & rubys, but once she showed me her Rubys! i have never seen such virbrant colours! so hopefully it will be a ruby! but either is great as long as its healthy! champ dogs is another good site, kennel club, or just type into google, sometimes sites come up! im sure you will meet loads at the shows though! good luck!
hi pam2, where is the show you are attending in scotland? Had a quick look online, but not sure where to look to get details! thanks
Hi ananab00, the show is on at Lanark auction market, Hyndford Rd, Lanark. I got the information on the site cavaliers.co.uk, just go to the scottish regional club, and then events. I am looking forward to it, but the health testing (or lack of it ) does worry me a bit, so that is why I am looking for the right breeder just now. Are you thinking of going?
MRI isn't for heart and eye problems its for syringomyelia scans are done aprox 2 and half years old before being bred from heart and eye screening are different tests and most good breeders will screen
Well, I went to the Cavalier show in Lanark yesterday, and it was great. We stayed a couple of hours watching all the dogs and getting a good look at all the lovely dogs, it was fun trying to pick the winners! I was really impressed by the blenheims and tricolours, but to be honest they were all gorgeous. I met up with a breeder from a cavalier site and she was lovely and introduced me to her dogs. I was really impressed on how the dogs just sat through the pampering and waiting around, they were little stars. More importantly my OH was quite impressed by the dogs he met
Hi Trixybird, yes I had a great day, I packed a bag with water, raincoat, and camera and left it behind. I was kicking myself as I could have got some lovely pics. It was great being able to see the 4 colours of dogs all in the one place though, so it was worth the travelling for that alone. I keep telling my OH that cavaliers are not all like the obese ones he seems to meet, and he finally believes me now
