Hi, New to this site so not sure if I am supposed to post here or on the weimaraner forum?! Anyway, I have grown up with labradors but now its finally the right time for us to get a dog of our own and we are considering a weimaraner. But could any owners give some information about them as I have seen mixed reviews on the web, from guys who work with them, etc..... I understand they are very active, need lots of exercise & stimulation, very intelligent (none of which puts me off), easy to groom etc but there also seems to be some reports of them being very domineering and even prone to aggressive outbursts. I know that within all breeds you get dogs that do not conform to the norm, but can you tell me some of your experiences so that I have more to go on? Having had oh so gentle, but pretty dopey, labradors all my life I'm a little apprehensive about getting a dog that may find it difficult to, for example, adjust to new family members in a few years time, or settle when we have friends/family to stay (or they get looked after by them if we are on holiday)...(we also want to get a dog rather than a bitch - not sure what difference that makes with this breed?) Hi, i'm just off out in a moment so just a quickie before I go, I know the other weim members here will pop on too but first and foremost, a well bred weim, you couldn't get a better dog. Having had labs they are not worlds apart, depends on how your labs were bred, weims are generally more driven as most good breeders also work their dogs but they can adapt to family life easily given enough exercise and mental stimulation, they are people dogs and love to be around the family, they can be aloof with strangers but soon settle, the most loyal breed ever. My advice would be to make absolutely sure you seek a good breeder and meet their dogs and if you have any concerns about the temperament of their dogs then walk away. The dogs are generally a little more laid back and goofy/dafter, as long as you find a good, well bred dog and bring him up properly with lots of socialisation (very important) then you certainly won't regret it, they are a generally healthy and robust breed on the whole, both parents should be hip scored at least.
