    Broken Tail

My poor Hades got his tail slammed in a door this weekend while he was hanging out with my daughter and her friends. My daughter took him to the vet but as for a typical teenager, she didn't give me very clear instructions on what to do. She did say that we can let it try and heal on it's own (it is wrapped and he has a lovely cone) or to amputate. Curious if any of you have dealt with this and allowed it to heal on it's own. I would like to take him to his normal vet today and hear from her but I would like to hear examples before I worry myself sick.

I think you would have to know how much damage had been done to the tail to be able to evaluate the possibility of it healing. Did the vet do an x-ray?
I think I would see my own vet and rely on their judgement, but have to say that due to the difficulty of keeping a dog's tail immobile, it often can result in the tail having to be shortened.
