Bogie was a long time coming in from the garden this morning - I went to investigate and found him tucking into a dead pigeon. Sadly, judging from the number of feathers around, this pigeon did not die peacefully of old age, but must have been caught by a cat. I think I'm going to have to buy at least one more bird table. I already have one, but as we have so many birds visiting the garden I tend to throw a lot of seed on the lawn. I try and put it in the middle, away from hedges where a cat could hide, but there is obviously at least one very stealthy one around that can creep up on the birds! You'd think having three dogs the cats would keep away - but I suppose they can tell that my lot are complete push overs - if i t came to a confrontation, my money would be on the cat every time!
Some time last year it looked like it was snowing but it was a pigeon that had hit the overhead wires and come down. Pereg got to it before I did...
Oh, Pereg! My dogs would be shocked. I suppose you could say they saved a pigeon's life last year! Bogie and Pepe 'caught' one when we were out on the walk, and kept nudging it so it would fly off and they could chase it. It was a racing pigeon, utterly exhausted and it had lost a lot of weight. Thanks to the wonder of the internet I was able to type its number in and the owner came to get it the next day. Although I only had it overnight, I became very fond of it.
I reckon Pereg thought it was an extra meal sent from on high! I did try to get it away from her but only ended up with a handful of wing feathers.
