I was out with Pippa today and met a Parsons JRT called Bertie, whom we have met once before. Berties owner warned me before that he can be aggressive towards dogs he doesn't know as he is a rescue and had quite a bad time of it before being re-homed. Anyway, the two of them got on ok, plenty of tail waging and nuzzling each other which was great to see. We met them again today and it was pretty much the same as before, however the only difference was Bertie, suddenly jumped round and thrust his rear end into Pippas face, and then turned around again to face her, and that was an end to it. I've never seen this before and had a look around the interweb but found no conclusive answers, some seem to think it's a form of aggression, and some an invitation to play, I should add that Pippa can be nervous and has never shown any aggression to anyone or thing, and is quite submissive. Anyone have any ideas! Thanks Stuart.
I've only seen it in my own group tbh. Diesel who considers himself top dog ( he's the biggest and strongest but sadly a bit thick bless) so isn't, will shove his butt in the others faces in the way you describe. I would say dominance through play. He could flatten any of the others but Tucson my Pug is the brains of the outfit and keeps him in line with her death stare lol
Thanks for the reply. Your answer makes sense as he wasn't aggressive towards her at all, no growling, lips curling etc. I was curious as in 35 years of dog ownership I've never seen it before.
