Babies and dogs - cute or worrying?

This video has 35M hits (not sure why, it's pretty boring lol) but what do you think about babies and dogs playing like this...

Not really keen on it TBH - there are quite a few videos of Linus and the baby and the ones I have seen rather disturbed me.

I've seen this before and some follow up ones....the main thing is the dog is supervised with the baby , and is not showing any signs of distress...Linus loves his baby and you can see this in the video, he is being so gentle with the baby.....

That's not to say some of the videos you see are like that, many show a very anxious dog, unlike this one.

I think it depends on the dog and the baby involved tbh. I had my Boxer Dudley when my youngest was born and they adored each other from the off. The day we came home from hospital I allowed Dudley to lick his feet and they were naturals together. In fact I decided I was wasting my time sterilising my sons dummy when I caught him sucking on Dudleys foot Eeek when my son was around 9 months old. Some dogs are fab with kids and some aren't and as long as you're sensible and ensure neither is likely to be out of their comfort zone, then why not.

Must admit I hate seeing babies alone with dogs, plus seeing babies/toddlers climbing on a dog is a big no no with me, it takes just 1 second for a dog to turn on a baby/toddler.

At the rescue home we use life like babies/toddler dolls, we can make them all cry/scream by remote control to simulate a real baby/toddler, when we were assessing an brown 4 year old Labrador we made the baby cry & zoom before anyone could do anything she had the life like baby doll in her mouth shaking it, if that had been a real baby then the baby would of been dead in matter of seconds.

When my boys were babies my parents had a young Labrador called Sorrel who adored my two. She'd sit quietly by my side whilst they were being bathed or fed and at night she'd sleep next to their cots. When my elder son was about 3 years old and was playing in the garden Sorrel came to fetch my mother and took her to where my son was found walking along a wall with a long drop on one side. The dog went up to him and gently took his arm and pulled him to safety. When the boys got older she'd allow them to play some very naughty tricks on her .... one night she didn't come in with the boys at dinner time so my father was sent to look for her ..... the boys had nailed her in a crate and she was patiently waiting to be let out!

The Linus videos make my heart melt. Nothing like seeing a child grow up with their best friend ( dog)

some times i see it as a problem, ive seen some videos where the dogs look really uncomfortable. But some dogs are really good and natural with children. Phoebes mum was great and if the jrt got to rowdy around the kids she would tell him. Then when the third came along phoebes mum and the jrt had gone but my brother had 4 gds's and a cocker. when his gf found out she was pregnant one of the gsd's took on the role of baby guardian and wouldnt go to work she had to stay home and guard the pregnant one, when tristan was finally born maggie was made up and would guard his cot, whoever had tristan would also have maggie right there at the side of them. She would give the other dogs a telling off if they got rowdy near the baby and if she was shut in kitchen and he cried she would jump the 5 foot safety gate to get to him. But she very rarely ever touched him and she would always keep a distance but would never take her eyes of him. But i would still never allow maggie near him unsupervised and i wouldnt leave any dog near with a baby or child alone
