Are rough haired JRT's becoming as rare as rockinghorse ****?

We've been pondering dog number three for a few weeks, and I really miss my old JRT girly so we seem to be looking towards Russell litters. Now we know a lot of farming and horse keeping folk, which usually are realistically the best source of russells [my old girl was a rescue, but I don't wish to do so again.] but all seem to be smooth, all litters I hear of through the vets or through friends or see advertised also seem smooth! I do quite like a nice heavily set tricolour smoothcoat, but my preference os for Rough Coat or Broken Coat, yet I do not seem to be able to find one anywhere! Rarer than rocking-horse **** it would seem!
    Anybody else noticed this?

Friend of mine fell in love with Missy ( rough coat) and she wanted to get a pup. It took her about a year of looking before she found one.

All three of mine were supposed to be smooth coated but have all in fact got broken coats depending on the time of year.

I think people advertise them as smooth as they seem to think thats what people prefer, whereas they all look smooth when they are pups.

You need to see Mum and Dad, and maybe see them in full winter fluffiness as you never know those smoothies may indeed be a bit of rough in disguise.

I too prefer broken coated or tufties, but then any JRT is perfect to me.

My neighbour has a very rough-coated JRT that she got from a local farm. I can't say I've really noticed a trend, as there see to be quite a few farming folk with them round here. She's a gorgeous looking thing, but has such a high prey drive it's unreal!

My son's little Pappi is rough-coated....it took him about 6 months to find her. He got her from a gypsy camp in the end near Stourport. She's a real character too, he's had her 6 years now. But your right you don't seem to see many:? :?

Dawn didn't see your post originally so will drop you a PM, it's just something we have been thinking about lately as I really miss the old troublesome russell'ness, and Ralph's so deluded and in his own springer world I don't even think he'd notice!
