I ordered something from Amazon on Tuesday - we're on Prime, so I was expecting it on Wednesday. Didn't arrive, so I thought perhaps I'd ordered it too late in the afternoon and that it would come on Thursday. Didn't come, so checked on Track - it said parcel had been delayed on Wednesday due to a carrier problem, but an attempt had been made to deliver on Thursday morning. We'd been in, there's no way anyone could come to the door without the three dogs barking, and in any case there was no card left. However, we are tucked away behind a house with a similar name, so I expected my neighbours to come round with a card, but they didn't. They are out at work all day, so first thing this morning I put a note on their front door saying where we are. I've just gone to Track again, and it says an attempt was made to deliver at 11.30 this morning but there was no one to sign, and that they have left a card. But, if they left a card at my neighbour's house, they would have had to move my note to get to the letterbox! So it will be interesting to see when they come home if a card has been left this time. I went to the website and booked another delivery - the earliest on offer was Monday - and see what happens then!
If you complain and ask for 'compensation' they will give you a free month of prime each time they miss their 'next day' promise. I have got an extra 4 months out of them
I told them where they could poke it after ordering an Ipod that wasn't delivered for over a week, they claimed to have made several attempts but hadn't. It was eventually delivered, they threw it over my 7' side gate where it sat in the pouring rain for a couple of days till I found it. I haven't used them at all since, are they still using Yodel?
Interesting about the compensation Azz! I think they use several different companies. This one is DPD. I suspect that the driver just can't find us (our street is difficult to find, as well as our house) and is saying we're out in the hope that another driver will get this route next time! Appalling about the ipod, Trouble.
dpd are usually brilliant. my favourite delivery company by far, they usually give a one hour window and you can track his movements on their website. I think it's great cos the OH works nights and the doorbell drives him crazy keep waking him up and with Dpd I can get to the door before they ring the bell.
I buy things from Amazon but being overseas things turn up when they arrive in the mail, and when that might be is anyone's guess. But to the best of my miserably poor memory, only a couple of things ever went walkabout in between Amazon and here, and I was refunded each time after either Amazon or one of their marketplace traders involved, accepted my insistence that the packages had not been delivered. OK it might have been "wait another couple of weeks" so it was not instantaneous, but I have yet to be let down - even though I get so cross when I want to buy something and it cannot be sent here. Yesterday I received emails from two separate companies. One in China where a package had not arrived even though their tracking system said it had been delivered - presumably to the main sorting office in town but there is no tracking from there to the Moshav and to me. It took a number of explanatory emails as to why it was impossible to trace that the package had actually arrived at the sorting office, who must have thousands of letters, packages and parcels passing through each day, and the only thing that made them sit up and immediately offer me a full refund was my email saying "imagine if you live in a tiny village a long way away from Bejing, and a package for you initially arrived at the main sorting office in Bejing, how would you trace it? Bingo. Instant refund! The second one was from iHerb in California, who have no tracking system and do not now take responsibility for packages that get lost in the post. One small parcel did not arrive and although I know that sometimes things do take quite a while I mostly receive things from then between 5 and 10 days later. Three weeks is considered late and this had been sent long before then. Twice they asked me to wait another couple of weeks, and twice I waited - no parcel. So even though they now say they will not take responsibility for undelivered parcels, they have refunded me in full. I sometimes wonder whether flying off the handle about missing/delayed packages makes it more unlikely to receive a replacement/refund, and being nice about it actually helps in getting a replacement/refund?
Agree about DPD, they have been excellent. You can start a 'chat' with customer services. That's how I have always complained.
I always get a one-hour window for the dog food deliveries from Berriewood - so useful, it means I can time my dog walk etc. I've never had any time slots for Amazon deliveries though - if there's a tracking facility it just says 'out for delivery.' Usually when I order online, I try and help the driver by giving my address as 'rear of 67', because we are tucked away and have no number, just a name. But some companies - and Amazon is one of them - just won't let me do that - it keeps coming up as 'invalid address.' I've found the same as Malka - Amazon are very good at giving refunds and taking one's word that something hasn't arrived. Anyway, if it doesn't turn up on Monday, it's good to know that DPD are easy to deal with.
Before xmas i was farmed out to UPS and they handle amazon in our area - if they tried 3 times it will stay at your local ups and you will have to go get it yourself. you may have better luck contacting ups you will need to give them the tracker number as you dont have a card. make sure you tell them whats happened as the driver will get a telling off. I was told to try atleast 2 other houses in the street if nobody in and to always leave a card weather with next door or not so you know somebody has tried and you will have details on card for what to do. As for next day delivery i know that only happens in rare cases from our UPS. I would guees its pretty much the same at DPD
Did you have to take a photo of the front door when you left a card? Because once - I can't remember the company - I rang to query where a parcel was and said no card had been left. The guy asked me to describe my front door - which is white - and he said, 'Ah, they've left the card at the wrong house because the photo is of a black door.'
No but i did have to take a photo if i put it in a safe place given by home owner. ubless a door has a name plate on it could be pretty unhelpfull as with these upvc doors they all look the same
Yes, I can see that on an estate of identical modern houses it wouldn't help unless the number was on the door. Ours is very easy to describe though - as well as having the name of the house on it, it's half covered with honeysuckle! Just spoken to my neighbours - no card has been left there. As well as being very difficult to find, the nearest main road is chaotic at the moment due to gas works, so I can't blame the poor driver for giving up - especially if they have targets to meet.
at ups on a urban route you get 80 drops on a rural route you get 40. so can be a tough day. on run up to xmas i was getting 100 drops and was out almost 16 hours a day
Agree about DPD, they keep you updated at every stage and the Delivery men are nice I had thought about getting Prime but don't think I will bother now..
Glad to know the DPD delivery men are nice Meg - I look forward to meeting him when he eventually turns up!
Not really. i did have a pug attack the fur on the top of my boot and try to shake me about which was quite funny
Glad you lived to tell the tale! Being a courier or postman must be very difficult for anyone nervous of dogs!
