    Akita cross rottweiler pups

    Hi all.

Myself and my wife are looking to get our first dog together and we saw this. It is difficult to get any info on this mix. Any ideas would be appreciated :)

    Hi there.
I see its your first dog together - do either of you have experience of owning dogs and if so which breeds? I wouldn't recommend an akita or a rotti, as a first dog, so I certainly wouldn't recommend a mix of the two.

I'm also not sure why people would breed this cross, except for making money.

Instead, if I was you, I'd seriously consider going to the local rescue centre. There are some lovely dogs needing homes there

If you are still seriously interested in these pups I would read up on both breeds - then pick the worst traits from both and imagine a dog like that. Now I'm not saying that will definitely happen, but there is as much chance of that as there is getting the best traits from both.

Good luck in your search, whatever you decide.:)

    Hello, welcome to Dogsey!

Firstly, I would steer clear of newspaper adverts of this type...

    However, to be constructive:

What sort of dog do you want?
What kind of activities would you do with your dog?
Have either of you ever owned a dog before?

You probably won't be able to find much info on this mix, because it is a mix (if that makes sense). No one can predict what mixed breed pups or dogs will be like, hence no information.

If you don't mind what breed/cross of dog you want, try checking out local rescues. Many of them have young dogs/pups in; so you will be able to have the young dog you're after, as well as doing something great by rescuing!

Thank you for your input, any constructive criticism and advice is welcome.
I am a complete novice, but my wife has grown up with dogs. Her father bred Afghans and she grew up with Dobermans.

A rescue centre would be a good idea, i do check them online, though they are for the most part quite a distance from the north east of scotland. No real excuse there though :)

In terms of dogs I know my wife would like another Doberman, which would fit in well with me as i like to be out and active. My wife is at home most days so the dog wouldnt spend much time on its own.

I hope this info helps, and thanks again for the promptness of your replies

    Hi

Both of those breeds are very powerful and strong willed. Neither would be recommended for a first time owner I'm afraid.

I would also have to question the motives of the 'breeder'. Why purposely cross these two breeds? a combination of traits from both breeds don't exactly complement each other. Also, I don't suppose the sire or dam have any health testing.

Honestly, run a mile from such 'breeders'. There are plenty of cross bred dogs and pups in rescues that would love a good home. But, if you want to go down the breeder route, first narrow down the breed(s) you are interested in. Then start looking for reputable breeders. I am sure people on the forum will be able to help you in finding a good breeder(s) when you narrow down what breed you are after. :)

If you know you would like a dobe, why not try the breed specific rescues. I don't think there are any dobe rescues in Scotland, though there are a few across England.

It would be a bit of a trek (more so if the dog isn't right for you when you get there) but I'm sure it would be worth it in the end.

In fact, it may be worth you doing a new post specifically asking about dobe rescue as I know of at least 2 members who have rescue dobes and who may be able to give you better advice (but they may not read a thread with a heading of akita/rotti).

Thanks for the advice that is great, I did not know such a thing existed! (Specific breed rescuse that is) I will look into that. Driving to England is not such a hassle for something of this nature.
In relation to the original post, I was just gauging thoughts on a mix I had not heard of. I will make a new posting though thanks again

PS: Moli, I am in North East Scotland, Ellon, Aberdeenshire

I ask because if those pups you are interested in are in the Fraserburgh Area, I would walk away....Not long go we had Mastiff x rotty x staffies for sale....
Try Dawgs in berdeen, they usually have some lovely dogs, just type in Dawgs and you will get the link...
you could also try BARRK.............There are quite a few rescues in Aberdeen/Aberdeenshire, if you google dog rescues Scotland, you will find quite a ferw rescues...

Dawgs, leave if possible the dogs in their own homes until a home becomes available....May be a good idea to give them a ring....

I wouldnt recomend that type as your first dog,

nor would I recommend paying somone for the privilage, it could be a very full on pup which will take a lot of handling,

good luck on your hunt for a dog, there are loads of really nice dogs in rescue, Im sure one of them will be lucky to end up with you

Good luck with your hunt, exciting times but go with your head not your heart. Buying a cross from a 'breeder' encourages them to produce more crosses - and TBH the cross you mentioned sounds like something I would really doubt the motives of someone breeding
