Hi dont know if this is going in the right part of the forum but I am looking to get a dog and the breed is lhasa apso x yorkie. does anyone know much about his breed as I have seen quite a few on the dogs for sale adverts and this couple are breeders that live near to me. Just wondered if anyone can help before I make up my mind. Many thanks Diane
It isn't a breed it is a cross breed. Are the people producing them on purpose - I would ask why as I assume the answer is £££ as I can't think of any other reason - I would then assume it is unlikely to be a good breeder and find another ... Good breeders only breed from the best stock - the best stock do not get used to make mixes Good breeders health test before breeding - often people breeding cosses use this as an excuse not to test - however a cross may have any of the issues that the parent breeds could have A good breeder will help you thoughout the dogs life and if at any point you cannot keep the dog they would take it back - will these people? If this type of dog appeals - why not look for a rescue pup or approach a reputable breeder of one of the parent breeds thereby upping yr chances of a healthy pup? If the breeder is an excellent breeder - ignore the above.
i definitely would not get one. like has been already asked, are these people purposely breeding them? if they are i would definitely say they are just thinking of the £££. if you are wanting a crossbreed, why not get a nice rescue? its better to save the life of a homeless dog than encourage these kind of breeders to do it again and again.
Lhasa apso x Yorkie is a xbreed not a breed, so if you are looking to buy one of these pups, research both breeds, the pup may take after one or the other breed in temperament or looks, dont forget health issues in both breeds, your pup if it comes from a not so reputable breeder, may sadly double up on health issues , In other words, you will be taking a risk on getting a healthy pup. specially if pups are a resutl of 1, a unplanned litter 2, someone who has planned this litter for £££`s and given no care to health issues /tests.
As suggested , being a crossbreed no-one can guarantee what traits the dog could carry, a bit like a lucky dip really! you have no guarantees as to what the final outcome will be. You can read all you like relating to each seperate breed but even then there are no guarantees that any cross will carry any of their parents personalities.
Can I ask a personal question, do you know if this is a 'genuine' accidental mating or a planned litter? and what sum are you looking at paying?
TBH I would get your training with your two existing crossbreeds sorted out & make a gap of at least 18 months between the youngest & a new puppy before buying another crossbreed. Having three very young dogs together is not for the faint hearted & inexperienced(in training dogs) owner
I personally have never seen the cross, but please make sure you research both breeds if you are serious about getting one, including any relevant health tests they must have. For the dog may look like one and act like the other but have both health issues... Also what I do have is experience of three young dogs together, I have a 3 year old, a 2 year old and a 6 month old and it is not easy... my dogs are brilliant, but it can be hard work at the best of times... Good luck with your decision
V good point enjoy the two you have, enjoy the time trainig them and then once they are older and you have more experience training then look at a new dog and if you want a crossbreed then go to a rescue. there are NO good ethical breeders of crossbreeds so you would just be getting ripped off
Could be very like a Lhasa Apso. Or could be very like a Yorrkie. Could have the combination of the best of both breeds....or the worst of both breeds. The only thing you can guarantee is that it will have been bred purely for ££££.
