A dog from work has been shot :-(

    http://www.bbc.co.uk/news/uk-england-29739015

God my week is getting worse.

A dog from work has been shot by the police and the police have another one. These 2 dogs come to work alot and i agree they are BAD with other dogs. The dog the police have is Phoebes boyfriends mum. Im guessing she will be put down and the owner is going to be in trouble of some sort. It doesnt go in to much detail and i dont fully understand what has happened yet. I agree with the tougher rules on naughty dogs but its not nice when its a dog you know

Well at work today i got some more info. Dogs owner on holiday and wont fly home. Lodger was looking after them and has been arrested. Im really torn as i like both these dogs but if it was phoebe they attacked ild want them put down but not shot in the street! Still dont know whats happened to the dog that the police have but apparently she wasnt involved in the attack just running about enjoying the chaos. Think the police were a bit over top as it happened in a posh gated community. Bet she wishes she booked them in now instead of trying to save a few quid. Will update as i hear more. RIP Azkaban xx

Any dog can be like that Tina. As bad as he was with dogs he wouldnt ever hurt a person. I was never once worried being in his kennel

Nothing else has come through Katy since the alerts I received this morning. If I get any further news I will, of course, let you know via this thread.

But, whether or not the owner should fly home from his/her holiday is a mute point - the lodger, the so-called "carer" of the dogs was at fault in this case. Maybe the owner/s were trying to save money by not having put them in your kennels?

I do not know and I doubt anyone but the owner/s will know.

But what I do know is that the only, and I do mean only, people/place I would trust to look after Pereg, is the Dog Pension. I accept that she is a "special needs" dog but that is beside the point. I know that if she is at the Pension she is safe.

Safe from any possible harm either to herself or from her to other dogs/people.

Very sad situation all round, from what I can gather from the little info on original link the police shot a dog dead after receiving reports it had attacked a woman which appears not to be the case after all.

Tina ... Shar-Pei are not normally either dog or people aggressive and as many Pei owners will tell you, because other dogs tend to misinterpret their body language, a Pei is more likely to be on the receiving end of a dog attack. Pei are naturally a reserved, aloof breed even as puppies and it takes time and patience to earn their respect and trust, which is why they're not recommended for first time or inexperienced owners.

From what Katy said about them both being "bad" with other dogs, I suspect they'd had little or no socialization when they were young. Both mine ignore other dogs ... at training last Sunday Georgie didn't bat an eyelid when a young and boisterous GSD male took a shine to her and stuck his head under her tummy and slobbered all over her ladies bits! I've only once known M'boi my previous Peigirl show any aggression which was when Chloe was attacked by a village dog. M'boi immediately went to the defense of her little sister by growling and lunging at the other dog who did a quick disappearing act!

None of the articles gave a clear account of exactly what happened and I really can't understand why it was necessary to shoot the Pei boy. and I also can't understand why the owner can't be bothered to cut short her overseas holiday because I know if it was one of my dogs I'd be on the next plane home. All very sad!

So sorry to read this Katie. It must be upsetting when you know the dogs involved. I can't imagine how the owner could just carry on with their holiday. Then today we had the Jade Jones inquest, and a RSPCA spokesperson asking for the return of dog licensing, which is supposed to make us all think harder before we acquire a dog.
