I would suggest waiting until your male is older and more bonded to you. I would suggest a female as Akitas can have same sex aggression. My male was 18 months when I got him a friend. You want dogs bonded more to you as opposed to each other, do it too young and they might not want to listen to you. I have food aggression issues with my male towards the female, he is offended that she eats... wasn’t a problem at first. On lunch break at work, can respond more later..
I would wait until your present pup is, 18 to 24 months old that gives you time to concentrate on bonding and training him, which is better than trying to cope with training two young dogs at once. As for the sex, getting a bitch would be better.
