well ive always been in favour of tradtional names they are very nice but then again is faith a traditional BC name? my favourites for collies are shep, gyp, fly, and skye. most have featured in good books i have read, or stories by james herriot (idol ) like Gyp the BC who only barked once in his life brilliant story that! x
While I do like traditional names, I wanted something a little different. On the drive home from the breeders, we began to brainstorm names. The day before my parents had been car shopping, and threw out the name of the salesman as a joke. The name stuck: Moko. So my little Border Collie is named after a successful car salesman (my parents bought the car)
I wouldn't have called it a traditional name...but I do know a few collies called Chase - so I guess it could be . I am a bit concerned I do not know the name of my next one yet..... the last 2 have been named long before i met them....well the last 3...as Jazz was named in the car on the way up to get him.
Fenn is my surname but I also believe it is Welsh for orchid, my next collie if its a dog will be Flag and a bitch will be Lark
I now have a 1yr old rescue boy ;-) He was called Bill, but we didn't like it, and i was worried about bad association with the name for him.........so we have called him Drift (wanted something wintery as he has blue eyes) Jann xxx
We have had 3 working collies, all had names that were shortened for work .... Fynn was Fynnigan on a sunday Tag was Taggart (favourite TV programe at the time) And Jess was the loverly Jessica when she was a good girl
My Collie X is Moxie, and I just adore that name, it suites her right down to the ground too. My Border Collie puppy was to be named Rookie, named for her sire Roo and her Dam Quiche. Sadly, the mating didn't take, so I will have to wait still longer. Other names I really like for collies are Savvy and Zen. Will probably have one of each at some point.
Good thread, some interesting names out there My lil BC is called Brandy and my parents is called Bella! Neither are overly traditional that I know of?
When I get my next BC he/she will be called "Cap" in the hope that some of that long gone brilliance finds its way to a namesake!!
Ok so my New Arrival (see my Blog on Here) If i get the Dark Tri White Nosed bitch, Shes going to be Robyn However if i get little Bandit, shes going to be "Zola"
my collies named colin to be honest dont know why but i wouldnt change it for any thing many people think its stupid but at least its differant
