Bear is now approx 16-18 months(ish) and is only 24" high, is he likely to be just a wee boy do you think? He's obviously got a lot of developing to do yet and he's only just started filling out really but from experience with my other breeds, once they start filling out they don't really get any taller?
Hi there, I think your dog is a great size for a working rottie. If he is 16 mnts he may grow a little on his height, if he is 18 mnts I think he has reached his maximum height. Anyhow he will fill out a lot and get a lot more stature than he has now. And as a personal observation after 30 yrs - big rotties are not better rotties
kaos is just shy of 25" so hes right at the bottom end of the standard, I would think at the age bear is, he will not grow much more, but to be honest, I would rather have a conformationaly{sp} sound dog than a big dog ;-) quite a few cracking dogs lately that have done well in the show ring, have not been the biggest dogs in the world.
Well said Me too - I've seen some dogs in the same ring as Marius who are like Rotts on stilts!! They are definately way above the standard height and still get picked in the line up (but then again so do we!! ) As long as he is nicely in proportion, it doesn't matter. Is that measurement to the shoulder Random?
Thank you, I don't care if he made a big or small rottie, the past couple of months he has been filling out and his head developing but he has not got any taller and I would only be concerned if he was a really big build on short legs, if he turns out small but in proportion then clearly that's great. Cheers Shona, I guess time will tell. He is a rescue, we have no idea who or where he is from, hence the estimate at his age too. Thanks AM, yer height at shoulder. I'm just concerned if he fills out much more he will be a big lad on wee legs, if he stays in proportion then great but the way he is going he could do with gaining a bit more height.
I don't think he will grow anymore just muscle up. Personally I like Rotts to be in the standard after all that is what we are supposed to judge to ....... BUT If there was a smaller dog with less faults other than size and a poor correct size dog i would choose the smaller dog
