she is settling in ok but we are having to feed her away from our other dog stan because she snaps at him when he eats anything,we will get this sorted but this is the 1st time we have had 2 dogs so we are on a steep learning curve ,ive had to put up a fence around the shed because she jumped on to the rabbit hutch and on to the shed and then jumped the fence fingers crossed i have sorted this problem now .
well just a quick update she is now sharing the same room and sometimes the same bowl as stan woohoo.she has so much character she loves a cuddle on the sofa and will sometimes answer back with a quiet wuff and then run off (a bit naughty but we cant help but laugh at her ) she goes to training and can be really well behaved when she fancies it.
hi, don't know if you ever look on here anymore but i thought i would let you know i have Bilbo - now called Rupert. He had some serious problems after living in kennels for so long as a puppy but is turning out to be a lovely dog now - his biggest fault is the amount of noise he makes!!
did you get bilbo/rupert from the dog home ,we looked at him on the wbsite but someone i presume you had beaten us to him.they are very noisy arent they?their bark is twice as big as they are but we are winning that battle thank god ,dont think she will ever be able to be let off the lead though she has had two wanders now and she wont be off the lead over the field anymore
Yes we are very experienced hound owners as we already have 2 working beagles anda foxhound cross beagle. My parent foster dogs for the beagle welfare and all off mine are male 'rescue' dogs who have been notoriously difficult to find permanent homes for but i can safely say that rupert has been the biggest challenge yet. the bark is nothing like i have ever heard before so, loud and continuous when it starts!! i noticed you also had problems with aggression towards your other dog - we have had similar problems too and it has taken a year to get him used to cats! He jumped our 6' fence when we first had him and went out of the garden over the bbq. We have recently discovered that many of his problems stem from the fact that he is very short sighted so things frighten him if he can't see them properly. The breeders confirmed today that rupert is your dog's brother and they are going to send me some information on his family history. Juliet
yes we did have some aggresion issues with our other dog and even though these are a lot better we still have to watch zara when we give them a treat.having done extensive research into coonhounds since having zara we have been told that the hunting senses are hard wired into dogs for many generations still she is beautiful though and loves a cuddle on the settee,oh yes she has been hard work but we have had her for a year now and i think were winning (fingers crossed typing here).respect to you for cracking the cat thing zara is looking for them all the time whem out on a walk,we think she is very small for her breed and she just doesnt seem to put on any weight she eats omega tasty what does rupert eat and has he put on any weight since you had him?
glad bilbo found a loving home, shame the "breeder" didnt realise that it was one of theirs sooner, he' might not spent sooo long in kennels, with some scent hounds at a certain age they can become pushy with others and many times shows it's selve in aggression, but ive found if you work through it and keep them well socialised with other dogs it tends to lower as they come out of the naughty teenage stage. once again well done for giving a rescue hound a second chance,
I think I have a coonhound! The RSPCA said he's a rottie but I don't think so! He seems to be displaying traits of a hound, he also has the physique of a hound and he looks just like the coonhound in my book about dogs. Completely wild off the lead and once he gets scent of feather or fur he's off! 0 to 60 in 2 nano seconds! Agree, hounds are working dogs they have endless energy and can run ALL day!!
yes many yougng hounds need plenty of daily exercise but however once older foxhounds and other breeds of hounds settle need slighty less exercise and enjoy the comfort a little more many foxhounds that ive rehomed over the years have became lazy happy family pets with many living with cats and chickens ect. glad everyones hounds are working out, and your all in love with them x
I love coonhounds. We see lots of blue ticks, redbone, redtick, TW and black and tans in this area. I just love their "voice" Its unmistakable!
i have a coonhound. everybody is saying that they arent in the UK but one is imported her from cyprus limmasol. so if anyone is wanting to import them and doesnt want to pay full wack from the USA, its a lot easier, she is a fantastic dog and the breed is fab. wouldnt want any other breed.
I wanted a Coonhound and there do not appear to be any in the UK. You would have to get one imported. I read up on them and they are meant to be extremly loud and apparently not for the urban enviroment. Bluddy lovely looking though. I to like the blue tick ones best. Look at the Bracco Italiano. They are simalar.
