I don't think it's anything to do with a "Shona Fan Club" it's just that we all know that Shona is a very responsible, well respected Breeder and if I were her, in the circumstances, I would feel the same and want to take the dog back.
hayleybella, I think its only fair to add, my views on this dog were no diff weeks ago well before I found out he was form my breeding. Callums first thread can prov this, so its not as though I have changed my stance on this.
can i just say, i dont think the people on here are 'shonas fanclub', i myself do not really know her but going back and looking at the original thread about danny and then reading through this thread i can see people are just giving their opinion and that happens to be more or less the same as shonas. the people that have given their opinion seem to know what they are talking about, and quite franckly, i agree that although danny is well loved and cared for in his current home- the fact remains he was bought/rehomed on the basis of being a working dog by someone who seems to have mislead (whether unitentionally or intentionally) the last owner over his work training. Whether danny makes a good security dog or not remains to be seen but what i dont understand is a man who wants to set up his own security business, in a new area and yet to be qualified chose to get a dog from unknown breeding(at the time) and really an unknown background? i think, in my experience that he is probably nothing but misguided in his vision for the outcome of this. i know for a fact that you can buy trained security dogs that you KNOW are good at the job-and of the breeds known to be the ultimate security dog(such as gsd, malinois) why choose a rottie?? I think callum has done some studying with regards to dog behaviour/training etc but does that give him the experience to train a security dog? i suppose only time will tell on that one. And please, callum dont think that i am having a go or a dig at you as this is not the case i am just merely raising some questions/thoughts. hayleybella most dogs can be successfully clicker trained, including my two. but that does not make them able to be bite trained-my bitch is from a working line and she, i believe would be able to be bite trained but i would never consider this as for one she doesnt have the right temperament for this-remember the dog has to react to dangerous situations in security work and remember his training without hesitation and i couldnt trust my bitch to do that and im sure there are plenty that believe a rottie with such a difficult background could do this. my male dogs g sire was a failed police dog as he had NO bite and you would be amazed how this has travelled down the lines as my boy doesnt even play tug of war! anyway sorry for the long rant x
I'd just like to add that I am in no way "desperate" for the dog and handler to fail at all. I gave Danny to Callum as I felt wary of passing him onto someone unable to cope with him. I was led to believe Callum was a liscensed and certified handler and have since been led to believe this is not the case. Whatever the case, I could see that Callum was an able handler and I felt Danny was going to a home where his "issues" would be understood and dealt with. I still feel that way. I did not want danny going to a home where he was not suitably understood and where there was a possibility that he would end up in trouble or God forbid, pts. I had Danny for approx. 3 months and KNOW him. Callum has had him in his care and KNOWS him. Untill anyone has had any experience of this dog, I feel many opinions are invalid. I will not be judged by strangers who know nothing of me or for that matter Danny. I told Callum Dannys story according to what I was told by the previous owners and by what I had gleened from members of the public and Dannys Vet. As I have said I took Dan on as I knew there was a real possibility of him ending up in less knowledgable, even ignorant hands. Danny did not get on with my other male Rottweiler and had a few spats and this is why I felt he would be happier in another home. Though the situation ws under control between the two boys, I put their interests first. Danny, in my sole company of an evening, when I gave him one to one time, proved a very loving, affectionate and even compassionate animal, one night even holding a bandage in his mouth and passing it to me while I was changing a dressing! That is the extent of my bond with him.
i dont think most people on here are judging anyone- just saying their opinions on a public forum. I admire what you did for this dog even though i, like many people dont know the full history/story of dannys life i am just basing my opinion on information i have seen on here. I dont think anyone on here has criticised what you did for danny and i dont doubt that callum is a good handler but again i will draw attention to what i said earlier that from what he has said he is not a fully qualified security dog handler so i wonder how he is going to train a dog to do this when he has never done it himself. but i wont keep dragging stuff like this up as i doubt very much it will help resolve the situation.
ive read all these threads and would just add only derpiper and callum realy know danny and other people should keep there noses out of it..ive spent time in dannys company and know how he was.when derpiper got him.he was denanatly no house pet..he is not a bad dog by any means but needs a outlet for his boundless energy and would make a good security dog..ive had dogs for over 30 years..
as said before Krazykev - no offence meant but this is a public forum and the issues raised are valid ones in peoples opinions-this is afterall a place to do that we are not interfering as ultimately that is for the three people involved to work out privately
as I have said before, if this doesnt work out for the dog, the dog could come back to me, it could have been through three or four homes later on, its my name on the paper work so they will come to me not to you or anyone else, so I think that gives me some input. I also happen to own a security company and can see the obvious flaws in this where others cant
I will bow out of this thread now before I say something I regret, the offer still stands to callum for me to buy the dog back if things dont do well.
what i mean is people who dont know danny and have never spent any time with him should keep their opinions to themselves..as they have no idea what he is realy like..
what experience do you have that gives you the right to assess whether he will be a good security dog? afterall even callum admits he does not know whether he will
spent a lot of time with him when derpiper had him so i guess i know him better than you.after all have you ever met him
but the difference between us is the fact you are TELLING me, and others to back off and keep opinions to ourselves, whereas i and others are asking questions, and based on what we have read on here and on the other thread from callum and been told by all three parties which includes the breeder and this is what we base our OPINIONS on. the majority of us are not trying to tell people what to do we are merely just giving our views on the situation. and i really do not see why you have come on to this thread if you are not willing to accept that people are entitled to their opinion. i am not going to get into anymore discussion regarding this matter this evening.
