I know most people have seen many of these pictures before but they may be of value in terms of recognising where many of the bull and mastiff breeds were utilised. I do not support any hunting activity in todays society but feel they have historical value for some.
You can't really make much out in the photos - but they look like staffs. I would take the illustrations with a pinch of salt, as they are often just the artists impression.

Is the second one a Tibetan mastiff? The one with the white dog and soldiers is I think a Pit. I think I've seen this somewhere before
The 1st pic was taken in the town where I live Hatfield, Great Hertfordshire Open Show in Hatfield 20th June 1935. they are staffs
Ew, that third last pic one of the dogs intestines is hanging out x wonder if they were early EBT with the black spots looks like it could be dalmation in them x
