we don't work full time....i work a couple of evenings, my boyfriend works 2 afternoons and we have uni, sometimes timetables clash, sometimes they dont, but someone is with her for the majority of the day and she is taken for two long walks a day, so please don't say we aren't around for her :)

we tried putting her on the bed with the crate and she loves it! :D we can get her to sleep for a good few hours in there and we even left her for two hours in which she was completely fine! Hopefully she'll stay that way as well!! thank you scarter!!

Have always crated my pups for their own protection. Worried about them chewing electric cables etc! I think she probably objects as when you are around she has your attention and knows she will sleep on the bed! They do usually object for a while its just down to perseverence and they will cry. As others have said try to make it a safe haven. Feed the pup in the crate and make it their space. Try putting the crate in the bedroom and be prepared for a sleepless night or too but dont give in. Good Luck. Its early days yet!

I had to put our 2 new lurcher rescues in a crate because Jenny had terrible separation anxiety and would poo everywhere if we went out of sight for one second and Danny would go in the bin and eat all the dog food and biscuits out of the cupboard!
Danny was fine but Jenny would howl and cry. So i put them in for short periods and gave them nice treats when they were in there. I even got in there with them once so they could smell me in there.
They always had me in their sight at first then I would go into another room for 5 mins and come back without looking at them or acknowledging them at all.
Slowly they got used to it and now they sleep in their crate all night without a sound. In fact they like it in there!!
I still ignore them for 5 mins in the morning when I come down, make a cuppa and then let them out when they're not so excited. Good luck;-)

Short periods at a time is the answer with you in sight to start with. As Archer says, don't go to her when she's whining. Only go to her when she quietens down then she will not associate whining with attention.

Wow - she's very much like our little girl!!

    Congratulations :)

We're getting our new little boy in about three weeks. We didn't get Beanie until she was 11 weeks old so we'll be on unchartered territory with a little boy just under 8 weeks.
