Well im just in from work..and trying to catch up on the new posts regarding the condition of the animal i posted...(red pied) and the elbows of the flynn bred bitch not being straight !...well once again we have opinions from across the board...from folk who show their staffs..folk who work their staffs...and some from folk who own other breeds...i dont have a problem with any of these....what i do have a problem with is when i try to explain the reason for a certain "look" in a pic ..and all i get id negative feedback....well i guess thats my own fault for assuming everyone on here has the same taste as myself. Regardless of what type of activity u participate in with ur dogs be it field work, springpole, A frame, or weight pull...u as an owner have a duty to ur companion to prepare it to the best of ur ability..if u dont do this then im sorry but u have let ur dog down....u have already stacked the odds against ur dog !. I noticed a pic of a pitbull on an earlier post a amazing lookin animal...but this dog wont be kept in this condition all the time....u could put 4lbs on this dog and his shape and apperance would change totally...but certain lines of pit are very easy to condition....as are certain lines of greyhound...terrier ...and yes Irish/oldetyme staffords..and when put in shape they can look underweight to the untrained eye...just the same way as dogs of other breeds would look overweight to myself...but thats not to say they are not at their best weight to compete at their given sport. What i will say on the pic i posted earlier is this...in no way is that animal underweight...yes she is drawn fine...but underweight no...she was extremly fit in this pic...fitter than perhaps a lot of members are used to seeing...but fit none the less....now we all have our own opinions of what fit is.....but fit to walk 5miles ...is a tottally different type of fit to compete in weight pull or endurance competitions ...this is the truth regardless of how it grabs u. I was recently invited to a kc ch ship show..and most of the animals wouldnt walk 5miles without collapsing..in fact quite a few of them had trouble crossing the ring without sounding like a old bull grunter...now if ur talkin about poor health this is it for me. I feel as though i could go on al night on this subject..but i wont as a few of u have different tastes to myself and i respect this....iv saw the pic of Archer's staff.... a very good lookin dog ..and incedentally the same height as the brindle pied dog i posted...i could drop weight of this dog though by simply changing his feed..but i like him none the less..iv a soft spot for the red's...lol..i i also saw the pic of ...was it jaynes bi,tch asfter the section ?....a nice lookin wee lass....they dont have to be 19in ...to be a good dog.....but once again the shape of this animal would change by some good conditioning.....and she would love it !...the dog that is , lol....i would like to say that i would rather talk dogs than argue ..i know it looked as though it was gonna kick off at one point..but im glad it didnt.....anway enough of my rants...there's bin some good posts ...cheers Tusker......bye the way the wee blue pied is mother to the red pied bitc.h and the brindle pied ..dog....all very althetic AND healthy animals....and i know this is 1st and foremost woth everone...thankz...Tusker

A well explained post tusker :!: . Its like the saying each to their own and civilised actions and comments will make posting enjoyable on here :)
Thought i would post a few sites that i found while typing in irish staffordshire bull terrier into the WWW and actually come accross a few sites that have KC fit staffords

    http://www.edreid.co.uk/

    http://www.dogwebs.net/TURNSTYLE/

    http://verbal.50megs.com/

    http://www.shakerskennels.co.uk/

    http://www.cosmos-staffords.co.uk/

I do notice now that the "irish staffie" has alot of variation in shape and size.

Different to look at though :)

Unfortunately Tusker as I said the photo is not the best ...but one of the few I have left of Archer. It was taken after he had been on severly resticted exercise for many many weeks and hence his body is not as muscled as it was normally. He spent half his short life trying to recover from surgeries we had performed to try and save his life but sadly we had to admit defeat...he was just 4 years old.I was,I'm afraid very offended by your post that it wasn't worth ''talking' staffys to a non staffy owner....and posted Archers piccy to show you they are a breed I have owned.
He was the bravest dog I ever had the honour of meeting....he endured so much pain in his short life without ever moaning....in fact when we first had him examined for his condition the vet manipulated his patella and it dislocated .He just turned and looked at the vet and wagged his tail...
I think Tusker we need to just agree to disagree on the condition bit....I like my dogs fit and hard but I also like a covering on them...I never 'slated' anyone...I actually said<<<< I really don't like seeing dogs as lean as they 2nd picture...but then thats just me>>>>The piccy below is what I call a good weight...but then as I said we'll agree that we have different ideas.

Archer, ur dog without doubt looks a fit healthy dog.....i like him, im sure somewhere along the way wires were xed....there's no point in arguing about dogs.....i am as commited to my dogs as the best of owner's are. Ur right the dog in the pic looks in good weight for showing but thats all...this dog has none of the muscle mass...gained by good exercise ...but we wont go into that...to each his own..as long as u keep ur dogs healthy ..well i would not speak ill of u...or anyone...its far to easy to start slaggin matches when we'r sitting behind out pc's..this is a good board and im glad this thread didnt end up that way..i wish u well in ur new breed ..and hope ur dogs do well in their chosen field ...healthy dogs is what its all about !...

i think youll find it was me that said that they shouldnt be called staffords and if you go back to my post you will find my reasons why ,and it is my only my opinion at the end of the day and not ment as a dig at anyone or there opinion in anyway.

IMO i think the red bitch shown on page 9 was it? 'looks' far too thin. However, its an opinion from someone who doesnt understand this 'type' etc. I do like the look of fit staffies. I dont think emmas jazz looks out of proportion and looks fit to me.

I quite like the look of the first dog on this site http://www.edreid.co.uk/ , i like them to be lean but not with ribs showing, that seems a bit extreme to me. Again from someone with not much knowledge on this 'type' so no offence intended.

Also, id like to point out that a few people have said that the kc staffie cant run about cos they are unfit, well to be honest i havent met one yet that wont run for hours without stopping. Having not been anywhere near a show ring i obv cant say there arent any and from what some others have said there certainly are some but certainly cant condemn most of abreed cos of a few.

sorry id also like to say there has been some good info brought forward by tusker i think? which has helped myself understand what u mean by the dog not necessarily being underweight and ill, just thin and well nourished.

I still dont like to see a dog that thin JMO, but do like the atheltic look on those whom u can barely see the ribs or just about

Well hello to you all , i'm the owner of the red bitch that seems to of caused a bit of a stir...Firstly let me tell you no way is that bitch skinny or underfed,..If you look at the picture you will see that she carry's muscle,no way will a dog thats underfed carry muscle,..let me ask you this..When you look at Kelly Holmes do you see a thin lady or a very fit one with no exess fat..pritty much like my bitch she had no exess fat in that picture, she was FIT,and i can tell you it takes alot of time and hard work to get a dog in that condition, she isn't kept that way all the time ,she has now a good covering to help with the winter,..so as already stated thin and fit are to totally different things and to some who do not know so much may look the same...maybe them that do not know should try and get a dog in that condition, then tell me the dog is underfed, your'll find you cannot acheive the goal as good food is a major part of it..so thats my bit said thanks all.....

yes id also like to say ive learnt a lot from people on this board regardless of there prefered dog type ,but would really like jaynes questions answered about feeding and such to learn that little bit more.and id like to elaberate on the point of most dogs arent like short mussled tanks that dont resemble dogs of old in shows there are some yes but in no way the most common imo.

I must admit I haven't read every post on this thread...I'm afraid I haven't had the time. However it was me who made the first statement about the dogs weight...at no point have I said the dog is malnourised, underfed, starved or anything else.I HAVE said a dog this lean is not to my liking...the same as a fat dog is not to my liking.

hi weight watcher, after reading lots of info supplied by the members who prefer this type, ive said i dont think shes necessarily underfed. To the untrained eye or unknowledgable person like myself, the natural reaction is to say she looks awfully underweight. Obv from the view of someone who has done lots of research into this type will see something completely different.

however i respect everyones views and of course the more useful information members supply, the easier it is for the rest of us to understand.

    hey weight watcher :D
nice dog  you are dead right, it does take a lot of work and effort, diet and exercise to bring a dog into its peak and get it looking as good as yours does in that pic, so hats off to you mate :smt023
