What activities (if any) do you do with your gundogs? Please vote on the poll. I've made it multiple answer incase you take part in more than one of the mentioned activities or have more than one dog and do different things with each of them. If your dog is retired please vote for what they used to participate in. Any comments welcome! Thanx!
our dogs work with the hawks but in the past i've done companion shows with them and would love to do field trials or agility with the youngest in the future (if i move back home)!
Mine are falconry dogs too although one of the vizslas I co-own I show sometimes but my gwp who I lost in Sept.07 was a show dog and never worked.
Bit of a mixed bag here Random!!! Sacha I did obedience and agility with - she wasn't too bad and really enjoyed both. Charlie - really just a pet - he was missing a bit of his man bits so couldn't show him - we did some companion shows but to be honest he didn't really enjoy it - Jess does agility in the garden with him but really he is just our cuddle monster. Maxy - did breed shows after his tail op he wasn't doing as well I did use to take him cos he loved it so much but now we are concentrating on agility - which he really enjoys. Connor and Angus - showing only at the moment - although Connor will be starting agility in September with Jess. Would love to do field work with them but nothing in this area - I did look into it as I know Max would have loved it.
Well Jamie is a pet, he hates his tail being touched, so I doubt he would like to be shown... no-one can get him to stack!! Deacon, well atm he is a pet, but have been told he may be good enough to be shown... so you never know;-) ;-) Voted 'pet' btw!!
I`m not sure if working trials is counted in with field work, so I`ve voted Other. I do feel sorry for working-line dogs who don`t get a chance to use their talents - all those labs dragged round the lake on a lead `because he`d go in and get muddy`...and the sad fat springer I saw in the woods - on a short lead because they couldn`t be bothered to train the dog . Sorry if I`ve offended anyone - I adopted a rescue gundog 9 years ago and he introduced me to a whole new world!
I voted for field work and other activities as the labs (and dillan before he got lazy!) worked in the field and did flyball/agility xx
Flynn does obedience (not to competition level though) and has just completed his beginners agility. However, he'll be starting his gundog training in May instead of agility but will stick with obedience purely for the purpose of a well behaved dog. He is from working lines and shows great motivation for field work so it's only fair I let him do what he was bred to do.
Ben and Charlie are pets only. I entered Charlie in the Dogsey gundog virtual show, it was only when trying to get a photo that I realised I had never taught him stand, it took ages, so don't think we will be doing obedience or agility anytime soon!
I voted for breed shows and field work. We tend to go to shows more than anything now as, due to work commitments, I struggle to find the time for gundog training. That said I've now changed my job and am hoping to get a new gundog trainer in the summer, so fingers crossed we'll be up and running again!
I do agility and obedience with my munster. Show wise - no breed standards in the uk, but she is oversized for the breed and hates being touched by strangers, so wouldn't show her even if could.
Oliver has done Obedience and field trial classes, I'm a wuss when it comes to handling Birds so he only ever works with a dummy, he has rescued a injured Hawk chick we found at the park; presented it lovely to hand with out harming it. We gave it to the park ranger and it's since grown and had it own babies. Gracie is both Obedience and Show, she has plenty of bird drive but wont swim, so is useless at fiend work. Gabby is just a baby, she attends obedience classes and has been show
i have put other, out of my springers 1 will work this season and also does agility, 1 will also work this season, and the other is just a much loved Princess
First and formost mine are pets, but we have started agility training and are really enjoyng it so hopefully one day we will be good enough to compete. We are also going to try our hand at showing this year as well.
Hi, my Flat coat, does mainly obedience, but we have just started showing. Agility next year, and looking at working trails also, hope this hepls. Shelly
