What a really nice thread, I have thoroughly enjoyed mooching about on it!

Lovely pics of some gorgeous dogs, thanks for posting everyone!

I have liked Staffies for a long time now and would definately consider one as my next dog after Ozzy. I couldn't have another dog with him as he isn't dog-friendly any more sadly

Are there certain lines that are more dog-friendly than others can I ask? I understand that Staffies are brilliant with people but can be hit & miss with other dogs is this right?

Hi Anne Marie  Like you i had previously been owned by the gorgeous Rottie breed.I too had always had a love for Staffs. Now that i have one,i would definately recommend the breed to others.I can only really comment on what i have found since owning Ossie, and that is that he will play with other dogs fine. But and it is a big but,you have to watch him playing like a hawk because if the other dog shows any sign of aggression he will go right back at him/her.I have learned that the old saying which goes"A Staffie will seldom start a fight, but will always finish it"seems to ring true with my dog.In saying that,i would not swap im for the world as the love he gives my family and i is unbelieveable.People said that when i got a Staff, that it would follow me around everywhere.A lot more that either of my rotties ever did and they were right. It doesn't matter how comfortably he is sleeping,as soon as i get up,he is right there at my feet.
As you know there are far more experienced Staffie owners on here than me,so maybe they could help you more. But i would definately not hesitate in recommending the breed to you.

Kazz has written a very good article, that may help you if you haven't already read it.

Thanks Stamford - I hadn't read that article before and found it very interesting.

I do think that a Staffie will be in our lives at some point in time, now is not the right time but we have talked about Staffies before and are a favourite of ours.

They are such super little characters aren't they? I love their smiles!

Perhaps one day I will be posting on here about my own one day.;-)

I have had the privilege of living with Staffys for 18 years and I am still finding reasons to love them. There isn`t any different lines that are more aggresive than another, as with all breeds its the way the dog is brought up. That includes those very important 8 weeks whilst a pup is with its mother. The first staffy that we had wasn`t socialised properly as a pup and as a result she was a nightmere with other dogs. She just didn`t know how to speak dog!. I now have 3 who are all socialised. Murphy is embarassing daft with other dogs. When i`m jogging along with him and he sees another dog he collapses onto his back and wiggles all over the place( usually when I`m still jogging holding his lead).

hello again, thankyou all for the birthday messages! im now looking to buy a staff pup, colour is not important i am more interested in breed quality. must be kc reg and upto date with all checks and jabs. etc. good money paid for the right pup. im after a bitch but would consider a dog. a family enviroment is a must. will be living in my ground floor flat which has a park next to it. this is a forever home with previous staffy and bulldog experience.
if anyone knows of litters due soon please let me know.
    thanks again.
    Dan.

Hi Dan :) try 'Staffords Uk', they give lots of info about the relevant health tests/buying a puppy and local breed clubs. The Local Breed Clubs secretaries should be able to supply you with information about approved breeders with health tested stock.

    Good luck :)
