General description The Welsh Springer Spaniel has been bred for centuries in Wales as a combination gundog and family companion. The Welsh Springer is a medium-sized dog, with a silky dark red & white coat with feathering on the chest, undersides, legs, and tail. The head is slightly rounded and the muzzle is fairly square. The ears are fringed with hair and the eyes are either hazel or dark-colored. The Welsh Springer is a smaller and lighter than the English Springer, and taller and larger than the English Cocker Spaniel. Less outgoing than the English Springer the Welsh is merry, sensitive and independent. An active dog with a loyal and affectionate disposition he is reserved with strangers but not timid, shy or unfriendly. The Welshie needs to be included in family activities and is generally good with other pets and excellent with children. AS a family pet fhey are excellent watch dogs but are not aggressive, merely alerting you to a strange person or sound Height: Dogs 17-19 inches (43-48 cm.) Bitches 16-18 inches (41-46 cm.) Weight: Dogs 40-45 pounds (18-20 kg.) Bitches 35-45 Life expectancy: 12 - 15 years. Good post. They also suffer form Glaucoma and any one buying a puppy should check the sire and dam are tested. It should say tested clear for gonioscopy.
I love the way the dog in the picture is lying with his back legs like a frog. Sam does that too. Looks uncomfortable but he says it aint!
