Hi Kimassok, What do the pellets consist of? I'm very jealous now as you will be aware of training restrictions with distance here in the UK! My longest training run here within an hour drive in about 6 miles without having to re-trace any ground. A long training area would be fantastic, especially as at the minute we have the cold weather to handle it! I usually bait mine with either tuna or a liver mix blended and added to water to hydrate the dogs when running. Mine live outdoors as well so can appreciate the frozen water. LOL I take freash out evreytime I go out to check, I'm having my other half try to work out some sort of pumped water system that will flow even when cold so fingers crossed although it wouldn't be needed here anywhee near as often as where you are.
The pellets I feed is based on corn, fish. karbs and consists of very fat dry foods (29/20 fat/protein). The brand is, as I mentioned earlier, called Husse. But I must say again, I use pellets mostly as supply, and feed allover raw salmon, reindeer, seal-meat/fat, cow-stomach and such. I try to get each dog to drink minimum 1 ltr soup each 1 hour before training. This because I've experienced 20% too little soup equals 50% less performance on distances and speed. Now the greenlands are not sprinters of course, but they actually easily hold an average speed of 19/20 km pr hour, on distance of 10 km and more, and a top speed of 27-28 km pr hour. And I also noticed that the longer the distance, the more they their share energy evenly over distance. Next month we'll go to Røros and participate in 2x40 km race for pure bred Polardogs. Am very excited to test them (and myself of course)!!!! Then 5 days later we'll participate in another race of pure polarbreeds 40 km. The fat turnes into water aswell, during training/racing, so it is very important to find the right balance!
Where abouts are you based? there is about 9 miles of trail accessible in Swinley, Berkshire I believe and then I know a few people who train over the plains in Salisbury and can get 15- 20 mile runs in fairly comfortably. The mal run I am involved in organising this weekend is 7.5 miles near andover with a view to having two x 15 mile runs next year down the road. I agree it is not easy finding places though
Hi Im new to this site and not sure if my post will be of any use but I have a Siberian Husky and we feed her Arden Grange which is recommended for dogs with sensitive tummys, she loves it and wolf's it down. We also give her a raw diet of chicken etc but this is only ocassionally as a treat. Hope this might be of some use to you. xx
