Right Het, Rips, Kick, well any of you springer peeps really!
As some of you may know a springer is the next doglet to be joining the group, most likely from a litter planned for november time, however it could be sooner depending on circumstances (will shut up now;-) )
I've done a fair bit of research into springers (have been since November/December time) but wanted to ask 'those who know'..basically, whats a springer like to live with in general? (in your own experience, as you can't beat experience!), as the books only give an 'overview' and no matter how many springers i meet its not the same as one 24/7 if you catch my drift...
    Thanks in advance!

Ok well from my experience they're very lively and generally don't "mature" until very late in life. I think my last Springer didn't really calm down till she was about 8!
Generally they live to be fairly old, Bonnie was PTS at 15 and would still walk 3 miles a day til she was 13 years old.
As a rule they love kids and other dogs and can live with cats however ours hated cats but then she was trained to!
Wouldn't personally trust them with small furries, but again depends on the dog.
They lurve to carry things, anything will do. Don't be surprised if the tea towel goes missing, cos you'll probably find in their bed! They can be very dizzy a mad half hour in the garden every day isn't unusual! It's probably a good idea to have an activity for them to do, Gundog training, tracking, agility etc as it's the only thing that's likely to wear them out, they like to use their brains as well as physical activities.
They love water, but do get a bit chilly if out for too long as they're not waterproof like a Lab. Some can be bad chewers, we were lucky as ours only ate her wicker basket and left it at that! Healthwise they're pretty healthy. Hips aren't generally tested for as a rule, the average for the breed is about 7. Eyes are a problem and they should be PRA tested every year and Fucisdosis DNA tested if they're to be bred from. :) Overall they're the best breed in the world, and will do anything to make you happy, very tiring but sooo worth it!
Anything else you want to know, give me a shout!

Right...well as this is now the springer discussion thread..i would like to ask some Questions on our beloved springers!:D
What drew you to the springer as a breed?
What is your favourite charcteristic of the breed?
Will you allways have a springer (or two) in your life?

Er I guess we always had them, my Mam was a fan as they were known to be good with kids etc!

I think it's their dizzyness, nothing is as it seems in the world of a Springer. No one day is as same as the next! Oh and the obesession with carrying everything!

    Thanks Willow-:D
I have a question peeps....what 'type' would you say Ralph is?!?!
    Field type or show type?!?!
His mom was a show type springer but with a fair bit of field type in her blood, and his dad was pure field type!!-So would you say Ralph is more one than the other, or a bit of both?

I'm certainly no expert, but he looks more show type to me.

Got loads of good tips from the breeder on Sunday, all stuff about sloping topline, good depth of forechest etc Just wish I can remember what she said now!
