    English Springer Spaniel

    English Springer Spaniel

    --------------

Here is some Springer Spaniel info from fellow Dogwebber Robert K:

    English springer spaniel.

The breed was once known as the Norfolk spaniel, but has been known as the Springer spaniel since the 1900.
Probably the oldest of sporting dogs, the springer is an excellent all round gundog, and its original purpose was for springing game for the net, falcon or greyhound.
The coat is weather resistant, with moderate feathering, dogs bred for the ring tend to be bigger and carry more coat then working strains, the picture is of a working springer. colours are liver and white, black and white, or either of these colurs with tan markings
springers need plenty of exercise to keep them fit and prevent boredom, the springer is a happy and active dog and loves to please its owner.

    Hi Ripsnorter (great name!)

Love the pics of the working springers, never ceases to amaze me the difference between working and show. I have a springer, hes a very strange cross between working and show, hes probably more the shape of a Sussex, he has 'Short Ulnas' (thats what the vet calls it) so he has queen anne legs. I have GSPs as well but I would never be without a Springer in the house, incredible characters!!

    Springer Fan Yeah!

Yeahy a Springer fan!! I love this breed, we haven't had one since my "childhood" dog died (1999) but they keep on calling me back if you know what I mean!! The difference is amazing but each type is just as lovable, however I do prefer the "english" show type but with the ability to do a days work! This website might interest you http://www.canouan.co.uk/
They breed show Springers but they also work their dogs, a true dual purpose Springer in my opinion! Plus they breed B/W Springers which I'm also a bit partial too!! Bonnie had this funny habit of searching for my Mams soft glasses case just so she had something to show us when we walked in the door!:D I'm sure your Springer is beautiful just like they all are! Piccys please!
I must admit I've had my eye on GSPs for a few years! They are gorgeous, espaecially the liver coloured ones! I love all Gundog breeds to be honset because they seem to have that soppy "I'll do anything to please you" nature!! We have a Yellow Lab at the minute who is the soppiest lump you'd ever meet! Gundogs are a breed apart!
Just thought I'd add the above website may be having problems so try this instead http://www.canouan.co.uk/pages/canken1.htm
