Police to back review of the law.

Police to back review of law

AS SIXTEEN dogs were saved from destruction for posing no risk to public safety, police chiefs defended their Dangerous Dog Amnesty and outlined future enforcement campaigns.

Assistant Chief Constable Helen King said: “In the short term, our hand-in period offered owners seven days to come forward and avoid prosecution for simply having possession of an illegal dog.

“In the longer term, we are supporting calls for a review of the legislation to help keep our communities safe.

“However, owners must understand that it is illegal to keep any type of dog banned under the Dangerous Dogs Act.

“What we would say to anyone thinking of keeping such animals is that they are not deemed to be suitable as family pets.

“They are capable of causing serious injury, which may have devastating consequences.

    “Don’t take the risk.

“If owners of illegal dogs who did not take advantage of the hand-in period now want to come forward, they should not be discouraged from doing so.

“We will look at each case individually and assess it on its own merits.”

But the courts have just said that they are indeed suitable as family pets or they wouldn't have given them back!
And as for assessing each one on their merits did they not ask for a destruction order on all these dogs, that's a blanket covering not assessing each on it's own merits!

The police have lost most of their objectivity under this government, they have to be seen to be doing something to keep their political masters happy otherwise bang goes their promotion.
Even so, what have the K.C. done since the DDA was introduced to change things ?
What have the RSPCA done since the ban ?
It`s good to see the K.C. actually doing something, but it shouldn`t be happening. I`ve a feeling we`ll be here again a few years down the road.
