Advice for taking on a JRT please?

(In relation to my "Good Home Wanted" thread on General doggy chat.)

Tomorrow I'm going to see a male 1yr old JRT that is looking to be rehomed. I have it very clear to the owner that I'm only considering it and won't rush into a decision soon.

What advice can you give me with regard to JRT's if I do decide to take this dog on?

oooo how exciting, i can tell you that they are great dogs, full of character and fun. Don't be put off by the yappy reputation, i have a parson russell, he hardly ever barks, mainly its whenhe wants some fun. He and my previous x terrier have both been very clean dogs (they always poo in the same place and Toby hates it when his last one is not picked up as it puts him off... hmm perhaps that was too much information") Niether of mine have ever chewed when left alone. they are very intelligent little dogs too. Did the people say why they can't keep him, i will go and check your other thread :)

Take no notice of the last bit, i have read your other post, that was good advice from Ian. He possible barks as it sounds as though he isnt getting much attention and is possibly lonely and bored.

Good luck on getting a JRT, I've got two at the moment and they may be small, but no one has ever told them that. Both mine think they're great dane size.
On the car sick thing, both ours get car sick if they can't see out the windows, not that they have to be open, they just need to look out occasionally, and the pup (shes 14 months and will always be the pup) gets sick if she gets too excited. It's just a case of building it up, with our last JRT we ended up training her to be sick in one place (In a bin bag on the floor). Rather unpleasant, but it worked.
The greatest thing I find with my two is that they can be tired out with mental exersice as well as physical exercie. I take the pup for a run in the morning (the older one can't keep up any more, my Dad takes her for a gentle stroll) and then a couple of quick walks in the evening, but we do some obediance training every evening, and give them toys to play with against each other. Two tired and well behaved dogs.
Oh and the furniture thing, you are as likely to find a JRT sleeping on the back of the sofa (as in at head level) than on the sofa, they seem to be three dimensional dogs.
Just enjoy, they are loyal loving little dogs that will give you every thing they have for every second of their lives.
