That's disappointing. I would try going back to short absences and gradually lengthening the length of time. That worked for Tally when he had to adjust to being an only dog after having been one of a pack.

It's difficult because I just don't go out that much overall. And when I do it is mostly for outtings that they can join me.

Add to that, there is Cat-dog's dog fear. She loves going for drives but doesn't want to get out of the car - so short trips are perfect for her and she really enjoys them.

The funny thing is that when I got home, he was all over me, but as soon as I said "go potty", he left me happily to go out in the backyard. He wasn't all clingy or upset. So I really think it is just more that he hates being left behind rather than separation anxiety. Even when his Aunt C has babysat him, he has been unhappy to be left. I think he just really has FOMO - fear of missing out - more than anxiety

Talked to my neighbor today. Her son, DIL and their toddler moved in.

The other day, her DIL said to her "did you know the Toedtoes counts to her dogs? One... Two..."

I do. They know to comply by the time I reach two and a half.

My neighbor told her DIL maybe she should try it with her child.

It feels good to know that Tornado-dog is an example of good parenting.:044:

I used to think Tally hadn't heard me so I would sound a little firmer and begin to repeat with, 'I said ...'. I never got any further, she would comply straight away. Of course she had heard the first time. Now if she tries not to respond, I just say the one word, 'Said'. Cheeky madam.

The counting works with Tornado-dog. Apparently the DIL was surprised by that. "She just says "one...two... And they do it!"

The toddler is a whiny thing. Always upset about something. I'd be giving him the one...two... a lot.

@Toedtoes Any idea how one posts a video from an Android phone? My videos record as .mp4 but this site will only accept .pdf and similar. I can see everyone else's vids but mine are never recognised.

I believe you have to upload them to a site like youtube, etc, and then post the link to that site.

It's strange, I can share an mp4 photo with the photo app on this tablet, and upload from there to Breedia, but this does not work with a video file. The only problem that I have had with still photos was when they were taken on my OH's posh camera and the files were too large.
Thanks for your reply - I don't take good enough vids for YouTube. My eyesight and camerawork aren't good enough for that.

The dogs had their vet appointment today. Cat-dog was feeling very stressed and Tornado-dog was overstimulated so they were a bit nuts at first. We were supposed to see the one longterm vet, but instead saw one of the newer ones. No one mentioned why. I wonder if maybe they switched due to the dogs being hyper.

This vet was very good. She was not timid with the dogs at all and got right in to give them a full exam. When she was checking Tornado-dog's tummy, she made a chirpy sound and Tornado-dog determined that meant she needed kisses. She did fall back from her crouch in surprise but realized he was being friendly and finished her exam. She was very patient with Cat-dog. Overall, I am really pleased with her for the dogs so I think we will make her our regular vet for them.

Cat-dog has started losing some muscle mass in her hips and this last month has been a bit slow to get up and go upstairs, so we're going to add some joint supplements to her diet and see how that works. We're also going to up her prosac dosage and see if it makes a difference in her dog fear issues. She also got her nails trimmed.

Tornado-dog is chunky. OK, he's on the fat side. So, Aunt C says she'll borrow him and take him out for walks this spring and summer. Otherwise he's in great shape. Scratching his chest did calm him down whenever he got overly excited and when she examined his eyes and ears, just laying my hand on his nose still held him pretty still.

Next month Looney1 goes in and is supposed to see this vet. If we see the other then I got the appts reversed. If we see this vet, then I know they did switch us for some reason.

In August, Looney2 gets his echocardio and Panther gets her annual. And then Punx gets her annual in December. Punx has currently vetoed our agreement. She says she does NOT need to show herself at mealtimes and I should be grateful to catch sight of her at a distance. Occasionally she will let me scratch her neck when I am visiting the facilities - she knows I can't just get up and grab her then. I am trying to explain to her that if she keeps avoiding me, I WILL put her in a cage and hold her daily... She's not concerned.

Glad it went well and you have found a suitable member of the practice. Sorry to hear that Cat-dog is getting stiff, how old is she?

She's 11 this spring so this is expected. I'm impressed it took this long to start. Even last month, she insisted on following up and down the stairs even if I just went a few steps up. Now, she waits until I tell her to come so she doesn't go up unnecessarily.

The other night I ordered Chinese food. I usually order a few dishes and eat it over the course of the week. I requested they make my dishes with tofu rather than chicken. They messed it up and gave me all three dishes pretty much all chicken. Fortunately, they redid my order correctly at no charge.

So, the dogs are getting chicken in their meals all week.

Tonight, they had the chicken chow mein. Tornado-dog does NOT like cabbage. He set each piece on the floor next to his dish...

If only he had a dog to eat his unwanted vegetables. Oh wait! He has Cat-dog who quickly ate the evidence. :044:
