Hello new to the forum and hopefully will learn more about Pomeranian dogs. We have a young Pomeranian 10 months. He seems healthy and is very energetic runs around the garden a lot and is a barker. He keeps getting back snorting noises like somethings in his throat. He’s registered at the vets and vaccinations up to date but not kennel cough yet. I give him milupa honey to soothe his throat but wondered is this common in the breed?
Hello Howard, and welcome to Breedia. It could just be reverse sneezing - there is a lot of information on the following website. https://www.webmd.com/pets/dogs/what-is-reverse-sneezing-dogs There are also video clips on YouTube that show what it looks and sounds like, so maybe you can see if that is what your little guy is doing.
Reverse snorting or sneezing is quite common in dogs of various breeds - usually small breeds. It is an involuntary gasping, which you can be stopped quite quickly by covering the dog's nostrils. This will make him take a breath in through his mouth, which will stop the spasm.
