My 5 year old neutered male Irish Setter is a great dog but has a very dull coat. I have tried everything I can think of to get it shiny like other IS"s I have seen. Good quality food, supplemented with green vegetables, fish oil, brushing ... nothing works. Has anyone had this issue and can you suggest anything?
Thie dull coat could be due to your dog being neutered. Often the lack of hormone makes the coat become softer and finer - it can sometimes change to a more gingery colour too. You could try using a high gloss grooming spray when you brush him, but that is not going to alter the basic coat texture.
