significant heart damage at 6 years, what should I expect

One of our two 6-year old GSPs has significant heart damage, was in the ER overnight 2x in the last 5 days, going to see the cardiologist tomorrow. Dr. today said likely scenario is 6-12 months to live, with medication and taking fluid out periodically.

The second GSP is a bit more hyper, mostly with heaving panting, but he does calm down.

I'm no expert, but shocked that 6-7 years will be the life span.

Anyone else have experience with this.

Squirrel watch attached, the dog with the heart issues is on the left.

We did stop the grain free dog food which all the Vet's are recommending to do now.

    Thank you.

    How very sad.

I can't tell you what will happen as things progress, but I can advise to enjoy every single moment he is with you and make plenty of happy memories while you can.

<Big hugs>. I know how heartbreaking this is for you xx

Thank you. But he passed last night, we got called in at midnight and said our goodbyes, then buried him at the family home this morning. Yes, heartbreaking - 6 short years ...

We still have his brother, who is the one who we would have guessed had heart problems, heavy panting and a little more hyper ...

My sympathy. It's always hard to lose one of our family - even more so when it comes too soon.

It's always devastating when we lose them, but when the time comes so early it's even more heartbreaking x
