A husband and wife were listening to the weather forecast. It gave snow and asked that all drivers park on the even numbered side of the road to leave space for the snow plough. The following day there was more snow and the forecaster asked that drivers park on the odd numbered side of the road, to allow space for the snow plough. On the third day the forecast was again for snow, but the couple's radio battery died at that point. "Oh dear, we won't know which side to park", said the wife. Her husband looked up and with a weary voice said, "Perhaps you had just better leave the car in the garage this time".
Hehe my dog doesn’t like bringing back the ball because he thinks I like chasing it . I taught the older one not to bring it back when she was young by chasing her with it because I didn’t want an obsessed ocd cattle dog ,I think she taught the young one by osmosis .
I do not think I have ever taught a dog to play fetch - Tikva will not even pick her toys up off the floor when asked, so I really cannot see her bothering to bring a thrown ball back to me! The twin comment made me laugh, being a twin myself. I cannot speak for her but the thought has never occurred to me that only one of us was planned!
It took me a year and lots of treats to teach bandit fetch. Akita’s general rule is bring it back once but if you throw it again you must not want it. Katie Mae learned the game almost instantly from watching bandit. I can ask bandit to drop it and usually he will, into my hand. It’s a handy game when you’ve worked all day and just really don’t want to take a walk, and also good to play at night under lights.
All mine learn to search, and will do formal and play retrieves. My problem has always been getting them to play tug, which other dogs seem to think is a great game. Occasionally they might condescend to having a 30 second pull on a knotted sock, but they have to be in the mood, and any purpose made tuggy toys stay unused.
Tug, yes. Fetch? Retrieve? I get a blank look, a dog version of a shrug, and whichever one it was goes back to whatever she was doing! Lexi was not much one for even playing with her toys, Pereg loved her monkeys, and Tikva? Throwing them all over the place and pouncing on them is her idea of fun. I am obviously not a good trainer! Tikki is currently chasing around in the yard as it is the usual Shabbat "take the dog for its weekly walk" day.
