Need help and identifying Merle pattern

E7616823-AD14-4872-BF2E-9B0BDC8B792C.jpeg Recently I got a border collie. I was told he is a red Merle, but he doesn’t look like any red Merle that I’ve seen. Is this still considered red Merle or is he considered something else?

Interested to see what others say but I would describe it as a sable merle - though I've never seen one.
Were the parents a sable and a blue merle?

Whatever the colour is called, I think he is a lovely looking dog.

I would say he’s a sable merle, if you want to know for sure you can do a dna test

In Australia I’ve never seen that color on a border collie.
I have seen it on a “German coolie” however.

I saw a mini daschhound that color today which I didn’t know existed , so not claiming to know everything ,
Often the Koolies have different color eyes like the blue. Sometimes only one blue .

    Here they are https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Koolie

as I said I don’t know everything , always learning.
Koolies are working dogs in Australia (apparently originated the type of working dog there)

I live in Australia and always knew them as Koolies or German koolies.

Wikipedia page explains this name also, known as collies.

A rescue border collie on the news here tonight on 2 different channels is a real hero , finding signs of life in Beirut after the explosion there still.

I tried to post a link to the news story , however for some reason the link didn’t work. Had to edit the post, saw it on aljazeera , then I see rt has it.

    brilliant dogs .
