Hi every one i am so excited i just had to share with every one had my boys L2-HGA results back today and hes clear, im so pleased thats all 3 of mine clear. Definatly well worth the money to know you have healthy dogs.
when the email came through i was really worried about it i got my OH to read it to me, i was shaking like a leaf.
aww bless you its your worst fear reading the results but im so happy for you have a nice drink to celebrate the good news
Sorry to be thick, but what is L2-HGA? Something you don't want your bull terrier to test positive for I'm guessing
can i just get you all to clarify that your dog has to be kc-reg to have this done. my friend has a non kc-reg staffy and is adamant she has had this test done.
Here's a link explaining L2 http://www.aht.org.uk/sci_diag_disc_genetic_l2.html As far as I know yes a dog has to be KC registered to be tested.
Nikki at the Animal health trust, who I spoke to last week, confirmed that dogs do not have to be KC reg to be tested!! Claire
Thats brilliant news.Just a quick question how old do they have to be before you can have them tested as i have just got an unreg pup sbt and would like to get her tested.
I think they can be done at any age but dont hold me to that. your best bet maybe is ring the animal health trust and ask them.
To clarify.......your dog doesnt have to be KC reg to have this done, but it does have to be pure bred (at least 95%) SBT to get a result.
It is a nurological condition that has symptons similar to epilepsy, sorry for spelling. The test is to identify who is a carrier or not. Carriers do not develope the condition but if you breed two carriers together you can get affected. The test along with the genetic test for HC is now available and recommended that all SBT breeding stock should be tested and know the results before mating.
L2 Hga is a nurological condition with symptoms similar to epilepsy. The test tells you if your dog either clear, carrier or affected. Carriers will not develope the condition but if you breed two carriers together you will get affecteds. It is recommended that all breeding stock be tested for this along with the genetic test that is also available for HC. As well as the usual eye test for PHPV and PPSC
