    Hints and tips

Does anyone thing it might be a good idea to have a specialised thread for hints and tips for our dogs, ourselves, and for our homes?

Things that perhaps do not fit into any other section?

Apologies that I was not able to separate 'Yes', 'No' and 'Maybe' but I would be interested to know what other people think of the idea.

I have to admit that I'm not keen on the forum moving too far away from its canine focus. We can, (as I have done), already ask other members for help on the off topic thread, and I rather like it staying closer to its original remit. I'll be interested to see what others think, and I suppose that you will really need an input from Azz too.

@CaroleC - I meant simple things that we do/say to our dogs, as apart from the excellent YouTube videos by Kikopup and the excellent tutorials on Dogsey. Small things like getting rid of a smell/stain if your puppy has an accident and you do not have a bio washing powder to use.

Or if your puppy needs a mild antihistamine which can be bought OTC to ask for the child version but not to say it is for a dog, otherwise the pharmacist will not let you purchase it.

Small things like that, which do not need a separate section, just a general thread. Although I guess that the General Dog Chat section would suffice.

Anyhow, it was just a thought and not intended to stray from the main point of Breedia, which is, of course, about dogs.

I wanted to vote ' yes ' but it wouldn't let me, that's the only reason I said ' maybe ' but, it's a great idea

I wouldn’t mind but don’t think there are enough active members to make it viable.

I was thinking about suggesting a best picture of your dog competition. Obviously there wouldn't be a prize, just a vote by likes and the most wins. What does everyone think? Just a bit of fun!

I think a lot of mine are on here already, but why not? All in together, or split into different categories? Your idea, your thread, your rules!

AHHH, I don't do well with responsibility lol! I think one picture each, all in together. I'll open another thread for just pictures. If you want to take a new picture because you already have some on here that would be great. Unless you have a favourite you want to use, that'll be fine too.

I've created a new thread in the Genral dog forums/general dog chat section. Under the headline photo competition.

I think it is about time I checked the batteries in my camera and took some new photographs of Tikva, the only problem being is that she is either flonked out or rushing around outside! :043:

What's the point? You're already old enough and experienced enough to know exactly what you're doing. Plus, your dog is none of my business.

Perhaps someone young and inexperienced might find it helpful. We're not born knowing it all.

Does anyone know of any floor cleaners that have something to break down the enzymes of urine, to stop the smell and also so my dog doesn't get the urge to wee in that place again? Thanks.

I bought one called Urine You're Out (Geddit?), when Ed was a youngster. It did work, but so does the clear Biological Bathroom spray cleaner - which says it doesn't need rinsing, and is a lot cheaper. (Astonish, and other major supermarket own brands, do not test on animals). I have never had a problem with it but, just in case, do test first, especially if it's for a carpet.

I'm sure you will get other favourite suggestions.

Wee Away isn't bad. The problem with carpets is that no matter what you use, if the dog has used the same spot regularly, the only real solution is a new carpet

I had to be careful what sprays and cleaning products I used when I had Pereg in case there was a trigger substance in it, so I bought 'EcoDiscoveries Pet Deodorizer & Stain Remover' from iHerb. It comes with an empty 32 fl oz oz spray bottle and a 2 fl oz bottle of concentrate. You fill the bottle up the line and add the concentrate. It cost ~£4 and refill packs of two bottles of the concentrate cost ~£5.

I bought the original pack of bottle and concentrate around August 2011 plus a refill pack, and have so far used three bottles of concentrate so will order another refill pack maybe with my next order as I do not want to be without it. Considering that Pereg used to lose bladder and sometimes bowel control during a seizure, this actually did what it says on the label.

I used it on the carpet when Tikva was very tiny and sometimes missed the puppy pads and still use it on the carpet if I spill coffee or something on it.

I watch a program called it's me or the dog. And Victoria Stilwell the dog expert said that that's the best type of cleaner to use. I'll do some research. It's just in case he does it on the living room carpet, but luckily it's only the back door mat so far which is easily cleaned.

This has gotten me thinking. I used to use Febreze as an odour remover but stopped using it because it is scented and I was concerned it would affect Pereg, and spraying it on furniture, the carpets and on my bed where she slept, a bottle did not last very long. Nor was it any good as a stain remover, which needed another product. So when the EcoDiscoveries was recommended by someone on the Epi List as being safe, I tried it as a deodoriser as well as a stain remover.

Furniture, carpets, my bed, and on Pereg herself. Now I use it on Tikva if she smells a wee bit doggy, in her crate on her bedding, and even where she pee'd on the stone floor tiles.

I do not know what the weight limit is for the UK from iHerb, or the postage, but I am limited to 4lb in weight and a total amount per order of, I think, about $40. This is for Global Airmail postage. So I look for items that I am running short of that are marked as "Shipping Savers" and each one brings the cost of the postage down. Sometimes I even get away with no postage charge at all!
