So after reading many many books on this breed and owning one for 18 months This complex breed can be challenging to novices through to experts Each Shiba will be a different dog totally to the parents as there a individual little case each time.but from what Iv learned from reading and hands on experience,it must be of some use to somebody considering a shiba Any questions or Quires just mail and I may be able to help or put you in someone of further knowledge Cheers all
I think Shibas are most attractive little dogs. Not that I'm thinking of getting one, - too old now - but I would love to hear more about their characteristics and trainability.
They are very very intelligent, she was house trained 7 days after we had her,she learnt that if she had a pee.on a pad by the back door she would have a treat after it. So she stopped eating her kibble n was peeing little drops on the pad at 9 weeks old just to have treats Sneaky sneaky lol
That sounds very Beagle-like. They can learn anything provided they understand exactly what you want them to do, - and the wages are good enough. What are Shibas like for losing hair? Continual loss or a definite moult?
She has moulted twice a year roughly and then it wasn't to bad,we just used a ferminator on her every other day,I think some Shibas are heavy moulters though, after the moult though very little hair comes off,
They do actually avoid dirty puddles and mud I thought it was a few dogs after I read about it,but I'm.assuming they all do it,after any meal or walk or play exercise she will spend 20 minutes grooming herself, she also don't like having her chew toys in her cage. She head butts them out
