I have a 8 month old male Akita and he does real good with listening most of the time but I have to tell him 2 or 3 time to do something! What am I doing wrong or not doing! Plz help!
Though very intelligent they get bored very easily, and wonder what’s in it for them being a very independent breed they tend to think for themselves and have a very low tolerance for repetition, they can be stubborn if they think it's a waste of time to "sit" one more time they wont do it so,it’s a case of every day regular short training sessions, teach the commands indoors on walks ect:
My guy is only 5 months old and he challenges me daily. I make him sit before he can go out of the house, before he comes in the house, before I let him sniff around on walks. Like GsdSlave said they need to know what's in it for them, if he wants in make him sit, if he wants to go out make him sit. Kingsley is very good at sit/stay and will not move until I get eye contact and give the command/hand signal for release. It's not easy and it's taken a lot of work, but I spend a lot of time working with him and it's worth it! Just takes a lot of repetition!
