Does Anyone Know if a Goldador will be made a real breed?

I was wondering if anyone knows if they are going to make the Goldador (half lab half golden retriever) a real breed. I don't understand why they haven't. If they did I know they would be extreemly popular. They are amazing dogs. I trained one to become a seeing eye dog. He was the best dog I ever had and I miss him so much. He was everything I could ever want in a dog. And I hope to have a dog just like him someday. I plan on getting a Goldador when I'm ready and I hope it won't be too hard to find one. I wish they would just go ahead and make them a real breed.

people breed crossbreed puppies all the time, out of ignorance or an interest in a quick buck, so you shouldn't find it too hard to find one when you are ready.

No the KC will NOT be calling this cross a breed - certainly not in the UK anyway. It is, and always will be, a cross breed - even when people give it a cutesy name.

To become a 'breed' in it's own right, they'd have to breed true for many generations without the input of the original parent breeds. But honestly, what's the point? If people like Goldens then get a Golden - if they want a Lab then get a Lab - no point in deliberately crossing yet another breed for the 'quick money' gang to get their hands on is there.

Another potential for the rescue homes throughout the world :(.
Please consider a purebred Lab or Golden. They are fabulous dogs, and I'm sure you'll get one to equal the cross breed that you trained.

Eh? What on earth is the point in crossing a good natured, family-friendly, trainable gundog with another good natured, family-friendly, equally trainable gundog?

Only one reason I can think of.... :(

I think Guide Digs do do first crosses as they are the best for training but they found subsequent crossing didn't work so Guide Dogs tend to use only first crosses.
I doubt very much it'll become a breed as has been said they'd need to breed true for generations before they would even be considered and have a closed book i.e. no new input.
Creating a new breed is not easy, it requires a huge initial breeding stock, plus you;d have to retain all puppies until adult hood to select those that fit your initial 'standard' breed on from them, keep all the puppies etc.

Mixes can carry the best traits and personality of both breeds. Golden retrievers can be more hyper then labs and labs are usually a bit calmer but labs tend to be a bit more dominant and independent then the golden retriever is. So a mix of both would be kinda perfect for me at least.:smt001

that is strange, most labs i know are well energetic, to the point of being a bit hyper, til they turn 2 or 3 years old! But as for them being "dominant" :?

And equally can carry the worst of both. You can't pick and choose the genetic traits that will come to the fore in each pup, and each pup will differ from the next. You can't predict which you'll get.

By your own assessment of both breeds (and I'm sure there are a few Lab & Golden owners who might beg to differ ;-)), you are as likely to get a hyper, dominant dog as you are to get a calm one :? You pay your money and take your chance.

I have a crossbreed (accidental litter) that came to us because his previous owners weren't prepared for the combination of traits he inherited. Neither were we, to be perfectly honest. The difference is that we had no preconceptions or expectations of him, we simply accepted him for the dog he is and have learned to live with and love his many idiosyncracies.

Goldador is a designer dog created over a decade ago. He is a cross between a purebred Golden Retriever and Labrador Retriever.

You have some information about Goldador

A "Goldador" is a cross-breed. It is only a so-called "breed" by people who have $$$ in their eyes. The same as my puppy could be called a Dachspin by some people like that, only she is nothing of the sort. She is a cross-breed due to an accidental mating and she was not sold as a "new" breed - in fact she was given to me.

Incidentally, this thread is nine years old and to the best of my knowledge none of the earlier posters have been seen since.
