Hi Guys! I'm new here and this my first post so here goes.. We have got a 6 month old dog and she's amazing. Lovely with the children and great with other dogs. I have owned large dogs before and she is fantastic, I can't praise her enough! Well my question is..we purchased her as an Akita (having done lots and lots of research we agreed on an Akita) I am aware of the terrible reputation but I do believe the owner is responsible for dogs behaviour. Anyway back to the question..do you think she is full Akita? The vet agreed she is an Akita however I wanted to get confirmation from other owners. I have uploaded some pics of Miko.. Thanks in advance for any answers!
Not an expert, but I wouldn't have immediately thought full akita tbh. Where did you get her from? GSD/akitas and husky/akitas are relatively common mixes - I wouldn't be surprised if she had one (or both) of them in her
I don't think she's full Akita, either. Tail doesn't sit correctly. Coat not exactly correct, and coloring more like a mix. Pretty girl, though. I'd think Shiba Inu mixed in there.
I did think maybe GSD mix, when she's standing up her tail is more curled. I seen mom and dad who were both Akitas but maybe a distant GSD gene down the line. I'll upload another pic when she was 5 months. Whatever she is we love her regardless, thank you!
Not a breed I have had much to do with, so this is just a personal view. Did both parents appear to be the same variety? In Europe we have two breeds, the (American) Akita, and also the Japanese Akita Inu. Is it possible that she could be a mix of the two types?
Dad was clearly an American sturdy and huge! Mom looked like she was the mix between the two..maybe that's where her colouring has came from. Thank you!
I think perhaps she's an Akita cross, I have never seen a pedigree Akita with her colouring, but I have never own one before so don't know what colors they are. Dad could of been a Akita cross (Shepherd or Husky type dog) & mum full Akita,
The ears are very long and placed high on head , but she is still young and could grow into them, also her muzzle is long for an Akita, might be the fault of the breeding. Did you get any papers (pedigree) with her? She is lovely and colour reminds me of my Scott, though he did have white chest and some white on his legs. He was half Japanese/American breeding.
We didn't get papers as we are not intending to show or breed we were just looking for a loyal family orientated dog, which she has been. Thanks for everyone's comments.
On first sight, I thought she was purebred. Taking a closer look, I don't think so. I really don't know a lot about Akitas. She is beautiful no matter what she is! Thank you for sharing her with us. She is probably a cross. The ears are awfully long for what I've seen on Akitas.
Oh no I'm sure you had many happy years with him! Thank you! She really is a fantastic dog so that's all that matters. I will upload more pics as she grows because she is only 6 months and I know large dogs can take up to 3 years to fully grow.
