I think with hindsight you have bought the wrong breed for your lifestyle.

To be honest, no dog should be left for 14 hrs a day, and a breed such as yours it's just not suitable, this boy is displaying normal behaviour , behaviour that's comes from boredom and lack of stimulation/ exersice, did you actually research this breed and its needs, i
To be honest, I am appalled that a breeder would place such a high energy dog in such a home, sadly it says a lot about the breeder.

Your dog is still a pup, unless you can change your lifestyle to suit this breed, things will get worse.

Your boy is showing behaviour paramount to a do that lacks stimulation / exersice, giving him a large place to live outside does not mean he will be happy, the destroying everything in sight it down to his lack of stimulus and frustration.

He will destroy things inside, too. If there is nobody to prevent him from destroying things, then things will get destroyed. The breeder clearly saw only $$$ and didn't take care to ensure that you could handle such a dog. Hopefully the extra walks and training will help.

Yes I researched the breed and did have mixed reviews.. However I didn't have specifics traits to research as I do now.. And that's why people actually buy from breeders rather than the shelter to get that so called wisdom & knowledge to help guide the buyer in the right direction... I work rotating 12hr shifts I am also single, live alone... All this was discussed at length.. I was assured he'd be fine... So I can't change my working hrs as it's the line of work I'm in/ and obviously I can't get married or move someone in just because he needs the attention.. And I'll never recoup the $2500 so I'm bitter all the way around.... I'm going to give him till the year and half mark and see how things line out... If he's still showing signs of destruction/unhappy... I'll be forced to find him another home.. At that point I'll only rehome him with other mals.. I do not want anyone else unfamiliar with the breed to go thru what I'm going through... I'm beginning to see/understand why they're not as popular as some try to make them out to be.. They are amazing and loving dogs.. But I think too high strung for the majority of owners.. Or anyone working away from home..

Yes at this point I would NEVER consider him inside... He can only destroy his large area now, few hundred bucks.. But in the house it'll be thousands of dollars...

I've met ONE Malamute. His owner had him leashed at the lake and told me that if the dog got loose, he'd run two miles before he even thought about returning. Very loving dog, totally friendly and so pretty... But obviously they are high energy and I don't think they are the right breed for most.

May I add that I wouldn't wait that long if the destruction doesn't lessen and the dog gets more exercise and human bonding time. Allowing certain things to go on too long in a dog can make them extremely hard or impossible to reverse. It may end up making him a nightmare to a new owner, and then his fate may be even worse...

Yes I've heard this and read that to be very common in mals... I've never even thought about having him off leash... However as of yet he's never tried to get away from me.. Actually stays rather close.. Once he got out of his harness he ran about two feet then sat looking at me as if to ask are u coming or not... Cause I knew not to bolt out after him... Chasing any dog rarely works.. They see it as fun and games..

I think you need to sort out your boys problems before bringing another dog into the mix, plus if you are away from home so much who is going to house-train and socialise new dog, there is also the possibility of it chewing things in the house, having one dog in and one out could cause ‘more problems rather than solve them.

Don’t mean to sound harsh but have you considered what kind of life you are offering your boy, shut outside all his life with a couple of hours attention,For me a dog is all about companionship, they are social animals and need and thrive on human contact

Yes I have considered that and please re read what I said... The new dog if and when I got him would be outside along with Thor during the day or frequent times for them both to have fun.. The new wouldn't be a puppy, but more along the lines of 2 and house trained... And I'm not being harsh to you.. But there a mindset this day and time that come off as tho people should work from home if they have dogs, dogs cannot be left alone.. This is simply not true.. Let's go back to the origin of a lot of animals including dogs, they've survived very well in the out of doors away from humans... Dogs are about companion yes indeed... Not all dogs suffer from speration and not all dog breeds are so high in energy/human contact all day or most of the day... There's a lot of people that live just as I do and have well rounded dogs some have outdoor some have indoor... My neighbor has two dogs and a cat.. She's gone 6 days a week 12 + hrs a day... The dogs are actually small indoor dogs which she lets out in a 8x8 kennel while she's gone, and let in when she's there.. They enjoy their life very much!! So again not being harsh, but I refuse to accept me having a job in the oil & gas industry means I can't have/shouldn't have a dog... This may just simply mean I've been sold the wrong breed.. As far as me waiting to let him grow out of his puppy age a lil more before I give up him, is for him and myself... We both need a fair chance at this... What I seek is actually a few suggestions, maybe from some who've actually encountered this same thing.. Not so much as its my fault cause he's not in my lap.. And sleep in my bed..

Your not saying what you are going to do to help this dogs destructive behaviour.....the fancy pen you put up will not change his behaviour.

My advice to you is rehomed him now while he is young enough to go to a home that understands his needs...if you leave this another 12 mths, this dog will be unrehomable..and will only have one outcome.

If your breeder is reputable, they will take him back now and find the correct home.

I think it's fair to say they're not reputable and would only profit more off of him.. Thanks for your input though

Then if rehoming is a serious option contact breed rescue to ensure he gets the correct home .

Thank you Jackie you've made your point. You don't think I need/should have him. God bless!

Can I ask what made you buy a puppy that will turn into a powerful dog (Malamute) in the first place, as I hate to say your lifestyle is not appropriate to meet the needs of such a powerful dog.
You have stated that you work 14 hour's shifts 3 days a week, which means your puppy isn't getting any exercise for them 3 days, an puppy needs walkies - playtime - training - hands on contact ie getting pup use to having his ears paws jaw tail body being touched (useful for visits to vets) plus being groomed every day not just on days your not working.
Its obvious that the dog is not the right breed or age for you.
Unfortunately you have paid top dollar for your pup & understandable you don't want to just hand him over to a rescue home, so to recuperate some of your money back, I would seriously look at selling him to someone thats has experience with Malamutes that can devote their time in training him.

Why are you swearing at him like that? He's trying to better the situation for the dog. He has been told already what the dog needs. Before you berate people online, you might wish to learn how to spell and write properly. Learn to differentiate between "your" and "you're". The word is spelled "breed", and not "bread". Lastly, that might be the worst attempt at punctuation and capitalization I've ever seen!

(Doesn't feel so good to be spoken to extremely rudely for a mistake, now does it?)
