Hi. I'm new to the forum. I have adopted a gorgeous 3 year old Shar Pei from a sanctuary. She's adorable and seems to have a calm and loving nature. Any advice would be greatly appreciated. I'm wondering if a collar or harness is best for her for walks and as I'm from Cornwall but live in Cyprus I'm concerned her sensitivity to the heat. She's been in the sanctuary for a year after being dumped in the mountains and was found emaciated and dying.
Hi Callie, good on you for rescuing her @Pork1epe1 has a Shar Pei so hopefully she will spot this thread and give you some tips Regarding the collar or harness, a harness may be better - but it's up to you. And re the heat, make sure there is plenty of fresh water available around the clock and ample shade.
Welcome Callie. I'm glad that you have been able to give this special girl another chance. Carole, Eddie and Merry.
I love that you gave the dog a new home and a new life. Rescued dogs are so thankful! May you have many years of happiness with her.
Thank you so much for your reply. I'm on a weeks visit to the UK at the moment so am collecting her on Friday when I get back to Cyprus. I spent some time with her before I left and fell completely in love with her. I have always had German Shepherds and lost my last one to cancer 18 months ago, so this is a completely new breed for me, I just felt a connection with her. I'll post some pictures next weekend.Thank you again for your advise, I have ordered a gel mat for her.
Thank you so much for your reply. I am really looking forward to getting to know her. I have some pictures of when she was rescues but they are too upsetting.
