Gentleman as fall when walking his dog, several passersby & I rush to help him, someone phones for ambulance & I phone the RSPCA. Ambulance turns up but no RSPCA, they said they don't pick up strays, no I said the dog is not a stray his owner as had bad fall & there's no one at home to look after his dog, well there's nothing we can do came reply from the RSPCA. I now got a little scruffy brown dog staying with me until owner comes out of hospital. (Left message at hospital to let gentleman know where his dog is) what is the point of the RSPCA as they refuse to help, yet their TV advert says they there to help all creatures, but sadly this is not the case.
What a good job you were on hand to play the Good Samaritan. I hope the man is OK and that the little dog settles with you. Not sure who would normally take a dog in those circumstances. The police? I remember one Christmas Day my son went out for a bike ride and found a lost dog - he brought it home on his handlebars for goodness sake, and the dog turned out to be 17 years old! I rang the police to report that we'd found a dog, and they were very relieved when I said we'd keep it till the owner could be found, but they did seem prepared to take it if I'd said no. It didn't take long before the frantic owner called the police.The poor woman had been busy preparing the Christmas dinner and had let idiot relations take the dog out for a walk. Any chance of a photo?!
Have no idea Janet where or who take the dog, I suppose I could of taken him to The Rescue Home I work in, but that's a 30 mins drive away in normal traffic but is around a hour or more in rush hour traffic. Gentleman as broken his arm & twisted his ankle but otherwise ok, think he will be release from hospital later on today will try to take photo if the dog stays still for a second or 2 xx
I agree. They are far too busy playing politics - they have lost the support of so many people in the countryside and show world. It is sad as the reasons for their formation are as valid as ever. Local joggers once found a very old, weak and hungry GSD tied to a tree in the woods. They handed it over to a group of us dog walkers to deal with. The police said they didn't deal with strays anymore. The RSPCA, who jointly run the local rescue kennels, had no one available to deal with it, and the dog wardens were both on leave. (This was a Bank Holiday). I was ready to take him to the police station and bully them into taking him, when the park warden turned up. The dog ended up spending the following 24 hours in their base. Well done Tina for helping this little dog out. Out of interest, did you try the dog warden?
Yes Carol but they said be at least 3 hours before anyone could pick dog up, (unless it was Pitbul then they send someone straight away) so it was either bring dog home with me or tie dog to lamppost for 3 hours. Not good but can't get dog to stay still dog is light brown but looks lighter in photo
Thank Heavens you were there to rescue the dog while the gentleman was taken to hospital. I am glad to hear that he is not badly hurt but it is going to be difficult for him with a broken arm and a twisted his ankle if he lives by himself. You have such a good heart Tina - who else would have taken the little dog home? (((hugs))) xx As for the RSPCA - the more I read about them the more they disgust me.
He is a pretty boy - I hope he settles, and doesn't cause problems for you. You already have more than enough to cope with! Perhaps a relative of the old chap will come forward.
Only K9 but Scruffy dog has gone home back to his owner now Owner phoned asked if he could fetch his dog back tonight, so hubby drove him & his Scruffy dog home He was happy that someone took his dog in & as he lives close by I will be walking his dog for him until his ankle is better
Yes as soon as scruffy dog saw his owner his tail went on overdrive, Lovely dog did tell owner that couldn't settle the dog down, owner said took him nearly 6 months for dog to settle down for him, he bought dog out of paper his previous owner said he was a labradoodle x cockapoo & was getting rid of dogs as the children had a allergic reaction to the dogs fur, more likely because dog is so boisterous & they couldn't be bothered to train the dog. Anyway I am now walking Brian (scruffy dog name) until his owner is back on his feet (not going to let him off lead as a terror to get back on lead)
All the labradoodles and cockapoos I know have boundless energy and enthusiasm for life, so a cross between the two must be really something! I wonder if the dog tripped the man up or even knocked him over!
My 6 kilo Devil has knocked me over - she head-butted the back of my calves - so a bouncy 'oodle/poo could easily knock someone over.
No there was big pothole on pavement but it had been raining so gentleman didn't see the pothole, it looked just like small puddle on pavement at the time he fell over. Yes dog very bouncy & jumpy
