Keeping fingers crossed I can help

One of my Facebook friends shared a post on Facebook about a male springer spaniel who was found running lose on the A174 on Teesside. Apparently he wasn't wearing a collar and has no chip. The woman who found him says she can't keep him so if nobody claims him she will phone the council kennels who will give him 7 days. I have messaged her and begged her to let me take him to the NESSR in Berwick, a long drive for us but I don't care, as long as he is safe. I also begged her to ask for proof from anybody who claims him in case he is taken for dog baiting. I am worried to death in case he falls into the wrong hands. Keep your fingers crossed that either his real family show up, they will need a few stern words about tagging and collaring, or she will let me take him to safety. Will update you if I can get any further information.

Happy to report that his owner has claimed him with photographs as proof. A happy ending thank goodness

What a relief. I hope she has him microchipped now. My baby was chipped when she had her rabies shot, about three weeks after her puppy shots, plus she wears a collar with a tag giving my telephone numbers and my ID number. As her chip and the rabies shot are registered under my ID number, she would easily be traceable if she went run run. And knowing her that is highly unlikely as she is a velcro puppy.

The person who found her gave the owner a flea in his ear apparently. I hope after this scare he puts all of the above safeguards into practice.

One can but hope. But I am glad the dog ended up back at his home, although why on earth his owner could not be bothered to have him microchipped...

OK, so collars can come off and chips can move, but a good vet can always find them even if they migrate. That was one lucky owner who probably did not deserve his dog.
