    Older dog coming into home?

    Hello,

As you may know, I have an 8 year old greyhound mix. I am wondering if anyone has any thoughts on bringing another dog that is similar in age into the house? Would this be a no no? One person I talked to was of the mind that bringing an older dog into the house with an already older dog would pose problems, especially if one of the dogs was used to being the alpha. Please...any advice is appreciated as we are tentatively looking at a 7 year old male Corgi/Pug mix at the shelter. Thanks!

All according to the individual dog. Know many that is worked great for, and some that it did not.

Is it possible to take them for a good long walk together first so they feel comfortable with each other?

I have introduced adult bitches into a male dog household with no problems, and with those particular male dogs I would have been happy to introduce a male as well. Now, I would hesitate to bring another male into the house unless it was very very submissive because I would worry abut Bogie's reaction. Pepe and Chico would welcome anyone and everyone.

Three of my last four dogs have been rehomed adults, and I have not had any real problems in doing this, just don't expect them to instantly bond with each other. They are likely to keep a little distance for the first week or so, and Dog One may get a bit huffy about 'his' bed and 'his' toys.
Plenty of reassurance for both, and lots of walks together soon makes them realise that another dog can be fun to live with, and great company when they have to be home alone.
Good Luck. I can't imagine what a Pug x Corgi would look like, have you got a photo?

Unfortunately I do not have a picture as the shelter didn't take one. I called them and asked about him and he seemed he may be a good fit for us. If we are able to meet him I will ask to take a pic. Thanks!

Oh I do like him! Just love those ears. I really hope it all works out for you.

I love Jacob and Jared - litter brothers presumably. And the little Chihuahua mix - Queenie.

In fact, I love them all!

Ah bless him. I hope it works out when you do meet. So sad, so many lovely dogs and bitches, - and some quite small too. I hope they all find loving homes soon.

Sadly, we were given false information and were told Lucky is good with kids. He is not. It was in his file. Oh well. Back to square one!

I regularly bring adult chi's into my pack of six chi's, 5 females and 1 neutered male, with no real problems. However, my 60lb. female lab/basset hound mix will not accept any dog in her domain. I guess it would have a lot to do with the individual dog.
