We're trying to look out for you Grace many people who buy from puppy farmers end up spending thousands on vet bills Puppy farmers often 'employ' people to sell their pups for them (on free ad sites like P4H), so the more the 'employee' does their homework (i.e. appears to be genuine which equals more sales) the more likely they are to be used again. The best thing to do is look for a breeder on a website that only allows breeders who say they are ethical breeders on their site (as well as of course your usual appropriate checks) that way if anything goes wrong, and the breeder didn't act as an 'ethical breeder' you have an angle you can pursue legally. Breedia's directory will be like that However in the meantime it's probably best to look at the Kennel Club website for KC breeders, as, if there's any problem with a breeder you can always raise the issue with the Kennel Club. Hope that helps, and good luck (you're gonna need it if you buy from there )
Its not that at all, its just the site you have gotten your pup from does not instill faith in the breeder, and lets be honest here, you are buying from someone who has purposely bred xbreeds together, that alone is a red flag, add the site is not very reputable, you can understand why some concern is being shown. As Azz says a poorly bred litter is going to cost you a lot of money in the long run, you would have been better seeking out a reputable breeder of one of the breeds in the mix . P.S... Im still confused as to what injections the breeder says the pups have had ?
Congrats please keep us UTD. Very cute. I recently got a new 9wk old pup myself also with "2 injections" as I'm assuming you mean shots/vaccines that seems logical to me. You do have to be careful of bad breeders making a buck off dogs but if your feel they are responsible enough & you are comfortable your the one getting the pup. Not sure but I thought this was a mini Doxie? Not an X breed? There is nothing wrong at all buying a cross if it's bred responsibly anyway & not by a bub designer dog creator. But again I didn't see that this was a mix. If the parents were health tested, the pup is appears healthy that's good. Other considerations are conditions of the parents, try to find out about other health history of the ancestors & a health guarantee (I'm assuming breeders there would offer them like they do here)
Thankyou! No shes not a mix i dont think i said that Shes just not KC registered because she has mixed types for fur which isnt recognised as a KC mini Doxie x Thankyou, yeah they are all healthy and good Also to the rest of you, i did search their number, email and address and nothing came up. Ive also seen pictures of the breeder and his wife with the mother, with the mother while shes pregnant, the mother with the pups, and the breeder and his wife with the pups. They are also keeping one of the puppies and i have lots of pictures of them with their puppy, the mother and my puppy. I have their number, facebook, and ive got to know the wife as she suffers from one of the same health conditions as me. Im getting the puppy in 3 days, with a large bag of food, vaccination records, a blanket the mother has slept on, and the collar she has been getting used to and all the other stuff i need I have a list of her favorite foods and toys and things she likes and dislikes I will be seeing paperwork and getting everything i need. They are not a puppy farm, they are a nice family. Thanks for making me aware of the risks and making me double check but there is not a single thing about them that makes me feel uncomfortable.
I thought you said her dad is. Registered min smooth and her mum is a mix of wire and smooth. You do realise thT they are ALL separate breeds and not a variation of one breed, so sorry but your pup is a mixed breed with Three different breeds involved, if your breeder has led you to believe otherwise, then they are misleading you. Still not sure about your vaccinations, as can't understand why pup has already had two before its 9 weeks old ..?
Yes i know, im getting muddled xD they didnt lead me to belive anything, im getting myself muddled. At the end of the day it doesnt mean the pup deserves any less love or a good home I was wrong when i said that, i re read the messege and they said she will be getting her second one not that she had got it. She is 10 weeks old and got it done yesterday/
Smooth, Long or Wired is a different variation of the same breed, it's a DACHSHUND! I didn't catch that they crossed mini with standard. Though I'm sure the poster wants a pet dog not a show dog. I'm sure vaccin schedulea vary so I don't know what's the norm from country to country & all the vaccine brands.....however one would vaccinate to prevent diseases. My pup was 8 & a half weeks old when I got him. Had received 2 vaccines. As this is what the vaccine schedule calls for, it's okay to do before 9 weeks. It's what breeders do to help ensure protection. I'd think they'd be seen as trying to be responsible. So I'm not sure why this is being made a big deal of. I'm personally glad when breeders vaccinate. The OP has now answered that the pup is actually 10 weeks & received 2nd shot. Not that it should matter.
There are 4 varieties of the dacshund ....mini smooth standard smooth mini wire and standard wire....they are classed as separate breeds, you cannot register a mix of two varieties with the KC... in the UK, vaccines are generally not given till pup is around 8 weeks old, and the new vaccines used these days have 4 weeks I between first and second jab....that was why I asked about vaccinations, but as you say that has been cleared up. It is not a problem if the poster is happy with the breeder and pup, but gazmo has spent a lot of time on here asking advice on here about getting a new pup, it can be a little disheartening when people take the time to give advice then it's ignored. Pets4homes is not the best way to find a dog in the UK, Hopefully this one will prove to be Ok.
Yes they are separated by registration I assumed. So I was aware that they won't be KC registered. I'm only pointing out that this decision by breeders & club is just an arbitrary separate of varieties (it'seems not like buying dalmatian xoxo Dachshund for example). It happens with breeds some times. Even those not crossed for additional traits are sometimes classed as their own "breed". See I wasn't sure how things work over there on vaccuses but I thought there would be more than one option (vaccine type & different brands) like their are here in USA. My pup was given Duramune 5 which can be given at age 6 weeks and then should be given every 2-3 weeks. Yes I understand your position there. To spend time on giving advice & aid in research then the person does not follow through. Believe I know. Been there, done that more than once.
she isnt a mix of standard and mini, both parents are minitures but with differend coat types. I have taken everyones advice with everything so far, ive do all the checks everyone said. Its all come back ok. I know there are some bad people and puppy farmers. i now realise it wasnt a good place to look for a dog. However i have found one and i know its safe. Just because the checks all came back ok doesnt mean im ignoring advice, it means i followed it and it went well
I see I misunderstood looking back at the one post regarding dad being reg smooth mini then the mom being smoothXwired I thought she was standard. So your pup is a mini & just had a parent who's a cross of two different varieties.
