But he was not practicing obedience in front of a cat because the cat was in a cage and not moving, therefore he would not have seen it as prey.

He did not even see the cat as he was fixated on you and the treat/s you were holding/had in your pocket.

Actually he saw the cat multiple times and when i first took him out there before i started video taping he freaked out barking and lunging at the cat before i got him under threshold, he DEFINITELY knows the cat is there. There are also parts seen in the video where he gets distracted by the cat and CHOOSES to listen to me instead, the cat doesn't need to move for my dog to be REALLY intense about her :) 10 seconds in you can see him get distracted when he sees the cat, you can see him begin to fixate on the cat again at 42 seconds

I can only wish Finn was that obedient with a cat around :)

    Well done Loki :)

Sashicat would come on walks with M'boi, Chloe and me. She'd walk slightly ahead of us. then leap into the hedge trying to tempt the dogs to follow her. When they were young it took all my strength to stop being dragged into the hedge behind the dogs, but eventually with some training as they got older they stopped taking notice of her antics. At present, I'm training Georgina to ignore Sashi ... she gets over excited whenever she sees her, and wants to pick Sashi up! Luckily, she's a very independent cat who's out all day and sleeps in the roof space at night. During the day I feed her in the small enclosed garden where the dogs can see her but not get to her and over the past few weeks instead of barking madly, Georgina, in exchange for a treat will sit and watch her but it's hard work and I don't think I'll get to the stage where we can all go walking together!

    Well done Loki :)

Malka, can you try to be a little more supportive please? Milestones like this are a big thing for dogs with high prey.

What a beautiful dog. Perfect size, shape and muscle tone. They are a stubborn breed, but once they concede that you are the boss they know it for life. I think he listens to you very well.

That was great! He did very well especially if he was "freaking out" earlier. I can't get over how nice looking he is either.
As far as not seeing a cage animal as prey you'd be surprised. I was once walking down a street. My dog started whining & screeching. This was in the fall so there were leaves all along the street side. He was making his obscene noises & pulling on the lead, pawing at part of the street side. It was a storm drain grate (the leaves were mostly covering it so i didn't notice at first) and there was a cat inside down below. So he must have smelled the cat. So they don't have to see anew animal move.

Aww I didn't see this before today, Loki is beautiful! We're lucky, even from the first day Callie has always taken cats very casually. When the weather is warm Ninja the tuxedo will walk with us regularly.

You do get a chuckle out of people's reaction. Here's comes this big tough ol' doggie and running right at his side...a big ol' cat. It might take you time but it can happen. Now I want to know what brand of sneakers those are.
