    Sprocker such a pleasure

    Hi
Everyone wondered if anyone owns a sprocker?i purchased a male at 8 weeks old doing a lot of research into both breeds I decided to get a cross and wow I can't believe how much of a pleasure this dog is to own we are a large family 6 and codey is our handsome little addition. He has never whined left alone apx 4hrs per day shows no aggression training him is a task I look forward to and so does he .Recall is perfect by verbal or whistle absolutely brilliant off lead constantly quarters me which is one of the things I have been complimented on funny really as I have never taught him to do that?He is now 6 months old and I know it's early days but I think he will progress into a well balanced healthy sprocker oh by the way codey was purchased to be a family pet not to work him although it is tempting judging by his response training.
    All responses welcome

Hi Martin and Codey - welcome to Breedia from Pereg and me! :)

Please do tell us more about Codey [incidentally, whereabouts are you?] - and I must admit that I do not know what you mean wen you say he quarters you as it is not an expression I have ever heard.

Also, please post photographs of him as we love to see pictures of everyone's dogs! :)

Do you leave him alone for four hours every day, and is that with the run of your home or do you crate him? He sounds a perfect puppy and I do hope he stays like that and does not suddenly turn into a doggy teenage rebel! :D

    and Eddie of course.
I think Sprockers are a great cross, we have come across quite a few in training - not quite as 'Yes, Sir', as BC's, but so happy and amiable.
@Malka, quartering refers to the way a search or gundog methodically covers the ground he is searching.

@CaroleC - I know what quartering means regarding searching etc, I just do not understand what Martin, the OP, meant by Codey quartering him.

    Hi malka
Thanks for the reply,to answer your question about leaving codey he is left for 2 hrs twice a day uncrated in a large kitchen with garden access. When I said quartering I meant every so often he will come back to me and run side to side left and right up and down as if to herd me then jog off again I have been told its a form of quartering great little dog,if he does lag behind because his nose gets the better of him 2 pips on the whistle and he his back to me in a shot.
I am from Lancashire by the way plenty of rolling fields and woods for him to run through cant praise him enough.
In my limited experience of owning a spaniel I think the trust I put in is repayed every time I walk him also his confidence is growing constantly was a bit submissive with dogs and people at first but now he is fine.

I don't think I've ever come across one - he sounds gorgeous. I have experience of cockers, but never had a springer - the ones I have met have never stood still for a minute!

Does he have a cocker mum and springer dad, or the other way round?
