I read somewhere that dogs need the veg to be 'pureed' so that they can digest it...so I have been using packets of frozen veg which I lightly cook and then put them in a food processor - I then mix that with minced meat (heart, beef, liver etc). I may move to raw, I'm just a bit worried about how clean raw meat is

5 of my JRT's won't touch raw meat they like it cooked & my other JRT is a vegetarian & loves chomping on veg & raw cabbage, so I leave the veggies in big chunks for him.

I've been feeding my dogs on a "home cooked" diet for more years than I can remember. They have cooked meat or fish, cut up into chunks .... large ones for my Shar-Pei and smaller for my Miniature Schnauzer which are mixed with whatever (lightly cooked) vegetables and fruit are in season. I used to puree the veggie for my Tibbie as it was the only way she would eat them, but since she died I no longer bother. They also have eggs, cheese, kefir and yoghourt.

Georgina and Gwylim get raw chicken necks, wings or feet as a mid morning snack.

Most frozen vegetables have been briefly steam blanched before being frozen [which is what I do if I buy fresh courgettes/pumpkin/etc then I open freeze and pack], but freezing itself without blanching "breaks down" the vegetables so the dog can digest them. So there is no need at all for you to cook frozen vegetables and then put them through the food processor. Just more - unnecessary - work for you.

Or - if you grate vegetables, which also breaks them down, they do not then need to be cooked.

How clean is raw meat? How clean are your hands?! Dogs have amazing digestive systems and unless they have major food allergies or major ongoing health problems, they should have no problem at all with raw meat. Just think about those dogs who will scavenge and scoff anything they can find.

Pereg, who I agree is overweight but that is due to her epilepsy and medication, is 100% fit and healthy and she has fully on raw since about July/August/September 2011 - not sure exactly but I know I started giving her raw chicken wings soon after I joined Dogsey, and that was in April 2011.

This is a link to the Dogsey post which taught me all about raw feeding. I do not follow it to the letter as I do not live in the UK and some things I cannot buy here, but I still refer to this post from time to time.
